What is the deciding factor for you to commit to play in a tournament?

PLEASE Check all that apply to your decision..

Thanks

I just said entry fee. That was the closest thing that resembled my deciding factor. It is a cost v. benifits equation, period.

You forgot one of my bigest reasons. Stiff competition.
I get my butt kicked a LOT. But I can't resist a chance to play against the truly talented.

I agree. To a certain point I'll even gamble with players better than me, even though I know I have little chance of winning.

I usually play tournaments for the chance of winning or for really stiff competition. Either is enough to get me there. Sometimes I play because I think I can cash and other times I play because it is a Open tournament that brings in a few pros. I play those for the experience and thrill of beating a top player occasionally. Only cashed in one of the SE Tour tournaments, but beat some good players doing so.

-Travel distance is a big one.

-Next is time. Does the tournament start at 8:00 PM, it is 50 miles away, and will I not get home until 1:00 am?

-Race to what? This also has to do with time. Is it a race to 5 and 50 miles away and I will not get home until 2:00 am? (Prefer race to one or two for evening matches so I will get home at a reasonable hour.)

-Does the tournament ban the best players? I want to play the best players, watch them shoot, and learn from them. If the tournament bans the best players, I would be less likely to play there.

-Does the tournament ban certain play such as safeties/jumps/masse' shots? Not a biggie, but this will not help my game much. If a choice between a tournament which allows these things and one which does not, I will go to the one which allows more.

-Consistant written rules. Does the tournament change the rules each week depending on who shows up or who the TD is? If yes, probably won't play there until they get their act together.

I chose added money, format, and game 9ball. Game doesn't matter much around here because you'll only find 8ball and 9ball tournys for the most part. I hate a tournament where you bring in 16 guys that are going to spend money drinking beers and what not and they refuse to add money.
