Too Much Added Personal Pressure? (14.1 related)

I am determined to run 100 in 14.1 and won't consider myself a player until I do.

I got a late start in 14.1 I never played it until I started playing again in Nov 05. I mostly played 9-ball from age 15-20, then became a student of one pocket around 21.

When my son was born I stopped playing ( I was 26). Now that I am playing again, 5 years later, I am convinced that 14.1 is the game students of pocket billiards play.

I thought I could play a little until taking up this game and realize how bad I play. Maybe I am being a little hard on myself. I have a high of 47, and averaging high 20's. I am struggling with end patterns, and concerning myself too much with the cueball I think.

100 seems so far away, but I have a good friend that plays top level 14.1 that keeps telling me if you can run 2 racks, you can run 7. He thinks I will break 100 by the end of the summer. At least one of us is optimistic.

I've been in your shoes for years...I have a few centuries, but mostly my runs end in the 40's/50's which can win a ton of games. I am very tough on myself because the guy that taught me could reel off hundreds at will, and I simply can't!

I am convinced that there are moves I'm making that are run killers, but I'm not seeing them. I learned from a very unorthodox player, and I can tell watching Sigel, Miz, Dallas West etc......that they look at the table differently than I do. I would bet money that the way I prioritize problems and solutions are much different than those guys. I'm now studying a book by Babe Cranfield......trying to get a more traditional approach back in my 14.1

I'm sure if your teacher is confident in your ability....you'll get there. Just keep thinking the next run will be the 100.....it'll happen...

Thanks for the vote of confidence Gerry. I really enjoy watching 14.1 played at a high level. However it also frustrates me because it looks so easy and I feel I should be able to perform the same way.

Last week, before leaving for Jersey, my friend and I played 40-70 no count. I won, but it took more than a couple of innings and he was knocking on the 70 door every inning.
