One of my favourites to watch. I am surprised that Fu Jian Bo isn't higher, but again, someone playing a lot of Chinese-8 right now.Listed at #15, Fargo Rate 815.

In China alone, there's probably 100+ players to add to this list that would rather play Chinese-8.I wonder how many more top players in Asia aren't in the Fargo system. I'm willing to bet, there's a bunch!
I think you are not far wrong. There is a lot more money in Chinese-8 event wise. There is also a lot more money in 'action' with match-ups for those knocked out of tournaments. My guess, based on chats I've had with Jay Helfert, is that there are 500 Asian players that play 750+ Fargo speed and the majority of them are just action players.
Most of them lack the desire, the time or the funds to make a career of pro pool and, of course, we've reached the point in pro pool where Fargo 750 players are dead money in events having a deep internationally diverse field.
Philippine domination! I thought there would be more Taiwanese on this list. Here are the current top 100 players in Asia by Fargo Ratings

Ha! Was looking for his name listed the other way, sometimes I get confused with first/ last for the Asian playersListed at #15, Fargo Rate 815.
Yes thanks for that. I recall around 2003 Strickland saying he thought Yang was the best player in the world.here's a match from 2019 where he beats kaci:
i guess he just doesn't travel much. i always thought he was better than fong pang chao
Yeah, it looks and sounds weird when the family name isn't put first...Ha! Was looking for his name listed the other way, sometimes I get confused with first/ last for the Asian players
I enjoyed watching this with my morning coffee tooYes thanks for that. I recall around 2003 Strickland saying he thought Yang was the best player in the world.
I've been to both China and Taiwan multiple times for work and always tried to visit local pool halls. I've come across many monster players that are virtually unknown outside of that little area. It's a big world out there and many don't have the means or desire to travel for pool. Especially when the prize funds are greater local to them.In China alone, there's probably 100+ players to add to this list that would rather play Chinese-8.
A good friend of mine just moved to Zhuhai to start a pool hall - (20 Chinese 8-tables, 4 American tables... 6 Snooker tables). Outside of Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing. There isn't a big scene for American tables
He's a professional snooker player, and a F good one at that. He played some American 9-ball, 10-ball for a while and would easily be on this list.He was taking a lot of money from people who got knocked out of China Open early this year.
Absolutely. From the China side, Chinese-8 and travel being a ball ache is the limiting factor.I've been to both China and Taiwan multiple times for work and always tried to visit local pool halls. Also, not that they ever make a big deal of it, due to the illegality, but they clearly love a bit of 'action' - China has some absolute technicians.
Yes, as far as I am aware, it is illegal. You can do these scratch cards, or partake in like state sponsored lottery, if that counts as gambling? Or go to Macau (China Vegas - where you could bet your mother on who can do the biggest turd if you really wanted...). But petty gambling is not ok...didn't know it was illegal. funny given how much they gamble. poker, checkers, mahjong, anything. that must be like banning drinking in ireland.
