Top 100 players in Asia

I wonder how many more top players in Asia aren't in the Fargo system. I'm willing to bet, there's a bunch!
In China alone, there's probably 100+ players to add to this list that would rather play Chinese-8.
A good friend of mine just moved to Zhuhai to start a pool hall - (20 Chinese 8-tables, 4 American tables... 6 Snooker tables). Outside of Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing. There isn't a big scene for American tables
He's a professional snooker player, and a F good one at that. He played some American 9-ball, 10-ball for a while and would easily be on this list.He was taking a lot of money from people who got knocked out of China Open early this year.

My guess, based on chats I've had with Jay Helfert, is that there are 500 Asian players that play 750+ Fargo speed and the majority of them are just action players.

Most of them lack the desire, the time or the funds to make a career of pro pool and, of course, we've reached the point in pro pool where Fargo 750 players are dead money in events having a deep internationally diverse field.
I think you are not far wrong. There is a lot more money in Chinese-8 event wise. There is also a lot more money in 'action' with match-ups for those knocked out of tournaments.

I don't think it's a case of desire where I am, and from what I am seeing. Many of the players have big aspirations, beliefs and a desire to do their best/be the best. It's more a case of opportunity (whether restrictive policy, or events that exist - from a payout and accessibility perspective) and funds in general (not everyone in life has support - be it family, or backer - or ability to travel on a whim).

Philippine domination! I thought there would be more Taiwanese on this list.
There would be more Chinese on this list, and I imagine/hope, now that travelling is more 'practical' (one way to put it) the number will grow again. Not a single Korean... Got a few Korean friends who love their pool... about to go and rip on them :ROFLMAO:

I've been to both China and Taiwan multiple times for work and always tried to visit local pool halls. I've come across many monster players that are virtually unknown outside of that little area. It's a big world out there and many don't have the means or desire to travel for pool. Especially when the prize funds are greater local to them.

Absolutely. From the China side, Chinese-8 and travel being a ball ache is the limiting factor.
Also, not that they ever make a big deal of it, due to the illegality, but they clearly love a bit of 'action' - China has some absolute technicians. What must also be recognised, is just how busy their lives are outside of pool. The way family, work and life obligations stack up and are perceived is very different from what we could ever truly empathise with or understand.

Taiwanese seems to love the streaming culture, and most certainly make a lot more from 'action' and exposure/fanboy culture than they do tournament play. I love the scene there. Abundance of decent halls with American tables, and always someone to play (granted they aren't fond of anything but 9-ball or Carom)

didn't know it was illegal. funny given how much they gamble. poker, checkers, mahjong, anything. that must be like banning drinking in ireland.

Yes, as far as I am aware, it is illegal. You can do these scratch cards, or partake in like state sponsored lottery, if that counts as gambling? Or go to Macau (China Vegas - where you could bet your mother on who can do the biggest turd if you really wanted...). But petty gambling is not ok...
You see often some small money is bet on games, or all kinds of things. But really, big money gets you in big trouble.

I was once taking photos of old uncles playing in a park, 'beat the landlord' - they love this game and play it with great enthusiasm - playing for small money. I got to one corner, and the guy explained that these people were being 'naughty' and asked me not to point a camera anywhere near them (unless I wanted to lose said camera) - he told me very politely. He laughed and called them 'bad men' :ROFLMAO:
