Tour Sponsors

This may be a dumb question, but something I got to thinking about this am. You see all these "sponsors" for tours, yet I can't think of very many that are adding money to tournaments....at least as far as I know most of the time added money is coming from individual pool rooms except for rare season ender, mid season, or maybe one higher payout event thru the season. I could be wrong but could someone shed some light on this? Is it free advertising for the product/a name to attach to the tour? Is it helping to pay for some of the directors fees? Again not "questioning", more just curiosity.

In many industries a "sponsor" picks up event expenses either via a cash donation or by providing its product/service at a discount (maybe free).

In the case of the billiards industry, it all adds to the prize fund since those expenses would have otherwise been paid from the entry fees.

Many times, the "sponsor" is providing product that goes to the room to raffle/sell in order to help cover some of the money they added to the event.

Depends on the deal. Sometimes it's a little money and product, sometimes all product and sometimes all money.

The ROI on sponsorship in pool is very difficult to figure. It's like that old saying, "I know half my marketing budget is wasted but I don't know which half."
