I was asked to run a local 10 ball tournament and I was wondering if anyone had a bracket That I could print out and use? Id realy appreciate it.

If I may, I would like to make a suggestion on how to number a Bracket so you don't have to use a bye chart. Use the Brackets from BCA 16. But change the numbes to the following. BTW if you have a late entry you just add them in the next number.

Post back if you need a 64 or bigger Player board. I will work it out for you since I have never worked one out yet. I use to teach College level Math so this is easy for me.
 
How does showing these numbers help you to determine which spots to give BYE's too?

In your 16 man board. The spots that get BYE's (in Order) are:
16, 8, 12, 4, 14, 6, 10, 2

If you re-number like you have that would mean: 2, 13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 14, 16
would be the BYE spots granted.


If you leave them as 1 through 16, and only get 12 players, you know that the spots that you mark as BYE are 16, 8, 12 and 4. (4 spots + 12 = 16 person bracket)

If you have 15 players # 16 is your bye

14 Player # 15 & !6 are byes

13 players # 14, 15 & 16 are byes Etc Etc Etc.

Study the bracket and see for your self it works outs for any number of players from 2 to 16. You don't need to enter Byes they are automatic.

BTW I run a lot of Local Tournaments and use this system. I even would not drawn numbers because people are in groups with their friends when I collected the Money. By just going down my Paid players list I spread Friends from playing each other right away. However Some got upset and accused me of stacking the Tournament so I now drawn numbers written on poker chips.

PS A cheap PlexiGlass Picture Frame works great for Dry Erase Markers. I drew up my own Bracket but you can go to Kinkos and get one made to fit your Frame. I have a 16 Bracket on one side and a 32 on the back side. I just reverse the Paper and put it back in the frame to change tournaments size.

That Link was already given in this thread. The problem with those type of brackets is you need to print off a bunch of different brackets and have them ready. That is a lot of paper and you never have the right bracket printed. If you are going to print off paper brackets I believe the 16, 32 or 64 Brackets with a Bye chart is a lot easier. I have not found a bracket on line that is numbered my way.

If you are going to make a Dry Erase Bracket Board, I strongly suggest you use my numbering system. You don't need a bye chart and if one or three player come in late, you don't have go back to the Bye Chart to see where to put them.

Now a Question was ask about having 12 players on a 16 player board. In both My number system and the Bye chart, 8 players play the first round and 4 have byes. This is done so the final bracket comes out even.

I am sure many will look at my Numbering system and will like it so much they will use it. Others will scratch their head and never understand it. After using it for a couple of years the same players look at my board and still don't understand why I number it that way. BTW I claim no copyrights to this system and welcome any one to use it or even make a bracket numbered my way for download.
 
I hear what you are saying, but even adding in the crazy numbering is not always the easiest approach IMO.

I write down everyone's names on a notepad sheet as they sign-up and leave a little space next to them when I draw cards or chips. I took some playing cards and wrote 1 - 64 on them.

I draw out cards, or sometimes let the players draw their own card if they wish. I pull out the BYE cards before starting. And write the numbers next to everyones names in the notepad.

Also, there are some really really great applications that can run full tournaments for you. Handles everything, the Draw, Late Players, finances, payouts, keeps history of past tournaments, assign points, etc. etc.

The last few larger tournaments I ran I did it on my computer and brought in an extra big Monitor to have it for the players to see (without having to crowd my laptop). You could even hook it to a TV at the bar if you wanted.

So you write the player's name on a 16 player chart when they sign up?
If so, what do you do when 17 or more players sign up?

Doesn't knowing where your name could be on the sign up list, give the players an advantage of knowing when to sign up? Knowing your first round opponent or which bracket you're going to be in is a huge advantage.

I try to keep things as simple as possible during the tournament. Therefore I have taken the time to make sure my method is as easy as possible for me. Not everyone is going to like my method, But it has worked for me for many years.

Most of people playing the tournaments I run are not that smart to take advantage of position. I no longer use that system because people complained I was stacking the Bracket by not drawling. I make them drawl now. I use poker chips but playing cards or even Beer Bottle caps will work if numbered.

I use a note pad to sign players up and mark them paid. After that, I pick whether a 16 or 32 player board. If I pick a 16 player board and get 17 or more showing up late but still in time I just transpose to that board without a re-drawl for position on the board while starting play as I transpose the first game. I do enter Players names on the Board as they drawl. Running a tournament can be a Big PITA and you have to be ever aware of everything happening. You have the final say and must keep these players happy and coming back. There is always some minor disagreement that is up to you to smooth over. I only want one person helping me when I am playing so the Players don't mess up my schedule or call games out of my order.

For the Benefit of the Venue I run out the winners side first. This keeps the losers there drinking. It also has the top of the winners bracket off the table and Drinking for a while so the Hot Seat is more competitive. As players lose they leave of course and stop buying drinks in most cases. But no matter how you do it, Someone is not going to like it.

Paid outs I use the 3, 7, 15 etc Rule

Paying 4 places I add 1+2+4+8= 15

Say I have 15 Players at $ 10.00 each, I divided by 15 and pay

4th $ 10.00 Entry fee

3th $ 20.00

2nd $ 40.00

1st $ 80.00

Each place up gets twice the money and I pay 25% of the field. The Bar will throw in a Free Drink to 5th & 6th to keep them coming back. Being in a small town we normally only get 12 to 16 players in these local tournament. Even then you get personality clash maybe because they know each other so well.

Do you need a 64 Player numbered board my way??

Where did you find the computer program for Tournaments??? I didn't see at the Link you gave.
 
Here how im doing it give me some suggestions.

Using a 16 man chart putting byes down first evenly spaced out filling the field. letting players pick there chip and in numerical order they go down in that order, NOT that spot. If there is a bye at number three then the one with the number 3 chip goes into the third open spot which would be number 4.

I would recommend you took the BYE number out before the drawl. I think with everyone around you it is too easy to mess up moving # 3 to 4 and then # 4 to 5 then # 5 to 7 etc.
 
I would like to commend anyone that directs pool tournaments, boy what a pain that can be sometimes. So thanks guys.

As for the numbering and bye's, try both ways and see which one is easier for you. Make sure you have your wife, girlfriend, sister, or a group of guys stand over your shoulder and yell at you "HURRY UP", or "THATS BS" so you can simulate it properly.

I'm going to tag onto this post and ask, has anyone seen a bracket program that you can actually see the whole tournament bracket on one screen and has the capability of a banner option? The reason Im asking is that a lot of places have the big screen LCD's that can be used as the monitor and how cool would that be for sponsors to be able to add there banners to the brackets. Yes on your 13" screen its too small to read, but on a 42" or 50" screen, I would think it would be fine.
