Tournament coming up in NYC?

Hi there,

Somebody at my local pool hall last night told me that there's a tournament coming up soon at Amsterdam Billiards in NYC. Supposedly many top players will be there, including Immonen, Bustamante, Reyes, etc. He didn't know the details, though.

Does anybody know which tournament he was talking about?

CrispyFish, this would be the UPA and Dragon Productions event: The Fury World Summit of Pool.

It will be held next Wednesday, October 8th, through Sunday, October 12th, and the participants may enjoy a $125-a-night hotel room (plus NYC tax) rate at the Grand Hyatt on Park Avenue for pool players only, if reserved previously.

The self-proclaimed "Governing Body of Men's Professional Pool" also known as the UPA has sanctioned this event, part of the UPA Tour, to ensure all monies will be paid out and UPA rules adhered to, not to mention those wonderful ranking points that benefit UPA members with a seed and a bye in UPA-sanctioned tournaments, as Charlie Williams, the current UPA president, enjoyed at Big Apple and Capital City Classic, two independent UPA-sanctioned events.

UPA membership is only a mere 100 bucks, in addition to the hotel costs, entry fee, and travel expenses.

It is to be hosted by Amsterdam Billiards, 201 East 86th Street, NYC, a first-class pool room.

This is a $30,000-added event based on 128 players, with a $300 entry fee, if paid before September 1st, and $350 for those late payers. There is $68,000 total prize money, if 128 players attend.

If it is anything like the Big Apple in NYC, it should be a huge success.

I heard about this tourny a little while ago, hopefully it's as successful as the big apple tourney. Does anyone know where I can access more information about the tourney (players list), if so your help would be deeply appreciated.

Sniper, I would think, this being a UPA Tour event, you may be able to find out more information about this tournament, and its players on the UPA website, www.upatour.com. There may be a telephone number you could call.

Thanks for the info! I bought tickets for the Friday, October 10 evening time slot (6pm-1am) and I'm really looking forward to it!

Yes, you can call Amsterdam Billiards (East Side) and give them your credit card information over the phone. They give you a confirmation number and then all you have to do is show up with the number and an ID on game night.
