Tournament story and apology

Today I played in a women's tournament at Chris's Billiards in Chicago. It was a great tournament and the women of this area are greatful for having it. There is another player in the tournament that I have never gotten along with. I have endured alot of comments/rumors and whatnot over the past 8 years. Until today I have never said anything back. I would like to apologize for the outburst/argument that began when the tournament ended. I feel badly for what happened and the manner in which it happened. I do not regret finally standing up for myself but I do regret the way it was done. So for anyone that was at Chris's billiards today, I apologize. I was just tired of being walked on. This is not the way I usually conduct myself. So again, I apologize.

Every now and then we do need to stand up for ourselves, even though some people can't understand it. you deserve a break sarah :)

Well everyone has a final line that cannot be crossed. 8 years of comments and rumors is alot to bear. I would have blown off the first time I heard something like. My hats off to you for having such tolerance. How did you do in tourney?

Thank you guys. There were only 14 women at the tournament. I won, Tina Larsen got second and Rebecca Wagner got third. The men's tournament had 60 players. Paul Navarette won, Jim Engles got second, I believe Neal Jacobs was third.

But after lots of comments behind my back, I struck back, right in front of the whole classroom. I was the instructor and some instructors and atheletic coaches literally ate crow. And the student body backed me. Best thing I ever did - CULTIVATE RESPECT!!! YEAH!!!

Sorry Doozie I reported the wrong finish in the men's tournament. Paul Navarette won, Willie Munson got second and Jim Engles got third. Sorry I completely left out a match.

Hi Sarah,

Ever hear of the old saying, "turn your cheek"?

Well, over the years I have found that all that does is give them another cheek to hit. And they sure will.

It is best to have principles - and to stick up for them and defend them. The only people who want you to keep turning your cheek are the ones who keep striking out at you. Cultivate true friends - forget about the bums.

Did this other person finish in the money in the tournament?

Congrats on the win. Look forward to the next tournament and keep that can win attitude uppermost. Life is short so enjoy it while you can.

Jake

Sarah,

No one was offended by you sticking up for yourself. In fact, everyone was glad you did. There is only so much a person can take. It really wasn't loud, and no one really heard unless they were close to you. Everyone there respects you as a person and thinks you are a great player. You have accomplished so much by such a young age. Keep up the good shooting. Congratulations on your first place finish. Many of the guys are scared to play you now after seeing you shoot well on a shimmed table! You're a great person as well as player. You conducted yourself in a very professional manner throughout the entire event. No one blames you for the very MINOR confrontation considering the events that took place so DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT! Good luck with your career!

Hey Sara,

I was at that tournament this weekend and I know who you are speaking of. She is a nasty vial B*%#) who should be banned from billiards. I have felt her rath many times and you were completely in the right to do what you did. I understand that you wnat to always be a "Professional" but sometimes when you are pushed way past your limits that is what happens. You were in the right, you need not make any apology for sticking up for yourself.

Hey Sarah,

I heard about the comment she made and you were in every right to do what you did. She is a VERY problemanic person that tends to be unhappy. Seems like she was giving it to you that particular day. Get in line cause she gives her rath to lot's of people including me. They say people like that will have their day and I can assure you, it will come.

BTW, she will be running out of friends soon, there are only so many of us to go around.

Thank you everyone for your support. I really felt bad about the situation and still do for making it such a public display. I do feel better though. Next time something happens it will be in a more professional manner.

Thanks again,
Sarah

Sarah,

Last night I was at the local tournament (28 players) and prior to starting it the TD (and owner of the pool hall) held a meeting with all the players and announced that if any players toss their cues, slam the balls, refuse to shake hands after losing, get into arguments, and he finds out about it they will be DQ'ed from that tournament and if he feels it is serious enough they will be banned from the place for a month.

It was surprising how well the tournament ran when the contestents realized that they would be held accountable for their actions.

Jake

Jake, sounds like the owner of the room knows how to run a tournament. He is right for making everyone show good sportsmanship.

8-ballcash, Thank you. I really appreciate the support. Since you are new to the forum, feel free to ask questions and comment all you want. I'm here to help. As for pictures, "Gremlin" has a ton of pictures of just about everyone. I'm sure he doesn't mind sharing with you.

Take care,
Sarah
