Tours and Prizes not paid out

Masters 2001

I Robert Moreno from Okinawa Japan paid $500 by money order that was signed and cashed by Brady before the event, When I arrived at the event to check in I was told they never received payment. I had to pay a late fee of $550.00 to enter that day. I paid the $550 and started the tournament. After winning my matches and on the winners side on Thursday I arrived at my match ready to play Jeremy Jones to be told "You should go check the board" After the event started and 4 days into the tournament I was told that "they" had a meeting and in this meeting "they" agreed to change the payout due to the lack of gate fees. When I won my match and left on Tuesday night I had made a guaranteed $1500 up to that point. When I arrived Thursday to play Jeremy Jones I was informed that I was not in the money rounds after "they" met and now needed to win two more matches to get paid. Now I lost $1500 for this tournament sudden change. Here is the kick in the nuts, once I returned home, the bank was able to provide me the copy of the check with Brady's signature. I sent this to Brady and Barry and called them on the phone several times to get my $550 back since I had paid on time and not late. Proof was on the check the date it was cashed. How long would you expect a reasonable return of funds should take? I had to hound them for over 1 year and once my payment arrived it was $500! I never wanted to play another of their events due to the hassles of dealing with them and the Tournament Payout adjustment mid event that cost me $1500! Am I a player that is still owed a payment, Hell Yes. Am I looking for it, never would expect it due to the number of phone calls it took to get the $500. As for the $1500 mid event changes you wonder why players had a hard time making money. Are Barry and Brady bad people no, could they do things better definitely, should everyone ban the events, not if you want a chance to make some money from one of the people who risks hosting an event. Will I play? No, travel expenses are much to high for pools payouts and my abilities. I blame Don Mackey or the economy and for the pool players themselves for not being a market that creates value to sponsors. If you have been to the US Open or Masters and if I was the owner of QMasters I would expect the players in the event to come to QMasters and meet the fans and play or practice. While I was there at the Masters only 3 players from the event came in on Wed night while the losers played the elimination rounds and those of us who won enjoyed the day off. I was in QMasters looking for them. You can see me in the Masters photo, This is a true story, every word. If I lived within driving distance and the top players did not come, Sign me up! Free money like the Superman that went the same time and the payout was great so I heard. I could have made bank over there but I was captured by the lights. How is not playing going to build the sport and create payouts or generate sponsor interests? Pool is a hard sale to corporations, when is the last time you shopped for a Rolex? How many players could pass a drug test? How do players react after a loss? Taiwan cameras in the 2001 World All Stars caught Johnny Archer flipping the bird after his loss on live TV. I was there and it is hard to play with a crowd of Chinese clapping every time you miss or fall out of shape. Scratch and they yell and chant so I don't fault him but how can a corporation place the face of the company on a pool player. Women have been doing the right things but lack the total skill of the men. Whatever association starts up it will need to help pool, not hurt. That organization is not here yet.

This thread is dedicated to professionals that are owed money.

Until the industry can deliver what they advertise there is a need to keep the spotlight on them.

The rumors that should be quelled or extinguished are:

1. Darren Appleton's payment from US Open 2010
2. Mike Immonen's payment from Masters 10-ball 2011
3. Danny Harriman's payment (the event is unknown)

4. The anonymous player that doesn't want to rock the boat because he thinks it only happens to him.

People that do shady business deals are very common. The excuses never change and neither do their stall tactics. It is time to address those shady business players properly. Typical of an excuse is "I am waiting on payment from someone else" or "I have the money, its just hard to get to because I have it secured in an investment."

Maybe a thread dedicated to all the people these players have screwed over, owe money, stiffed, dumped, lied to, scammed, I am running out of terms to use. Those players deserve to get paid and the simple solution is for promoters just to not promise such big purses. Problem solved in ten seconds. The promoter should just be realistic and like all good business men make a nice hefty profit for their trouble. They are stupid putting on tournaments that lose money anyway and going into debt to make up the loses to players who could care less about them.

As far as the players coming off all high and mighty they are a bunch of thieves con men to start with themselves plain and simple.
I mean lets call a spade a spade. People think all those road stories are fun and entertaining but listen close to those stories. They take pride and pleasure screwing over people it is their nature and they live up to it with glee. You have chosen the wrong group of people to waste your time defending. I am sorry.

Like I said it is easy to solve you don't need a players organization, just don't over promise them anything. If they want to play fine if not fine at least the promoter won't have to lose money. AND if it turns out to not be worth it fine fold all professional tournaments and do something you don't have to take a bath on every time.
If the players have some ideas that will improve things then let them voice them. It would be a better use of their time then shooting themselves in the foot criticizing the only people trying to do anything for them. Like many things, people often don't know who their real friends are. Do they really think Barry is some kind of enemy to be defeated? He wins easily by just walking away, God only knows why he doesn't.
