I have seen a few cues that have been made by cuemakers that have images on the cue that could be copyrighted.

I have seen Scruggs / Batman cue (W/B and DC comics)

The Hustler cue by PFD (???)

Porpers Popeye cue (Kings Features)

Quite a few others... so I wonder how many of them went to the source and asked permission to do the images. Anyone know? Know of any other cues that incorporate images of the like?

Based on a conversation I had with Paul Drexler (it's been a year or so ago), I recall he did go to the source for permission on the Hustler cue. I also believe Paul Newman entered into the equation at some level.

I remember seeing a jump cue made by Southeast cues several years ago that had a small frog and the name Kurmit on the butt. I asked about it and they said it was OK because the "Kurmit" was spelled differently than the Muppet character. I don't think so..

I remember that cue. I think it had an all ivory handle that had scrimsahwed (sp?) scenes from the movie the "Hustler". Different looking cue...........not my cup of tea

Not sure about all, but I know Meucci made a roadrunner cue, and McDermott made the Elvis and Marilyn Monroe cues. I know that he McDermotts have the copywrite info on the "decal" of each cue.

I have had a problem in the past with a 68-72 Joss. The delrin butt cap was cracked. Dan Janes refused to replace it with like kind and would only put a new version butt cap and logo on the cue, essentially ruining its collectibility value. Tim Scruggs and Bill Stroud refused to do it as well, even though they worked in the shop at that time, due to copywrite issues. I applaud their respect for the copywrite, but have lost all respect for Dan Janes in the process. It would not have taken much to simply replace a delrin butt cap.
