When I started to really experiment with English, I found my rail shots improved. Away from the ball increased my percentage of rail shots, straight seemed to miss more and into the ball seemed to work too but can't seem to find "the right way."

Which is the proper way to execute a rail shot and with which spin? Into or away from the object ball? Is there a certain speed to hit the ball, rail and how much the ball should be spinning?

Object ball froze the rail. Cue ball approximately 10-40 degrees off angle depending on shot. Shooting object ball in to corner pocket.

It is never good to rely on a single type of english to make any type of shot on the table even rail shots and from the angles you mentioned that shot should be able to be hit with any or no english as needed for position especially in rotation games. Practice Joe Tuckers rail drills they are excellent for that shot and can be found on his website. Most of these shots are missed because you hit to much object ball and throw it off the rail try thinking rail first.

No english, the more so since you might be working some draw or follow to work the cue ball a little. Keep it simple, Mr. Bond.

desertshark...Every rail shot is hit slightly rail first. You don't need to use sidespin to pocket balls which are frozen on the rail, unless it is a very thin cut, where you have to spin the CB to make the cut. You use sidespin to alter the path of the CB, after contact with the rail, when vertical axis won't get you there. Jerry will teach you this, when you meet with him next week.

Ok thanks Scott. That's what I was wondering. I guess I'm thinking more of a cut shot, but I have noticed just a hair of spin makes a difference down the rail.
