My understanding of Tate's original post, and please correct me if I'm wrong Tate, is that people on TV mention that fact that Rodney did time and don't say anything else. Some people will think the worst when they hear something like that, i.e., that maybe he did something a lot worse than what he actually did. The best thing to do is to not mention that he did time at all but if someone does, tell the rest of the story so people don't let their imaginations run wild. I think that is why Rudedog set the story straight.
Rudedog, I think this is a good thread and thanks for starting it. And, I'm sorry to hear that your health isn't good. I hope you start doing better. Sounds like you were a good player and I'm hoping you get your game back. Any time you want to play some, I'd be happy to play
Hi Rick good morning to you,
ONE'S PAST,
In my opinion, it's best to leave a guys past alone. Right wrong or indifferant, I am sure it's something that hurts the guy who is being talked about. Why not just leave it alone. If the TV, folks want to kick a guy when he's down, this to me shows no "respect", or "compassion" to him or his family. If Tate, wants to do the same, in my opinion, he's not better than they are.
Some, but not all, TV anouncers, have no "respect" to the guy they are talking about. They are hired to talk up pool, not talk down a guy playing pool.....WHAT HAS HIS PAST JAIL HISTORY GOT TO DO WITH HIM PLAYING POOL ON TV????????????? nothing.....Right.......
Those called pro-announcers, might have a dark side to them also. If that were the case, they might think nothing of exposing ones past. It might be funny to them. They may see nothing wrong with it.
I'll bet if they were to ask the guy for permission to speak about his past, he would say, "NO", leave it alone. Please don't bring it up, I have paid enough for my mistakes....
I look at it differantly, How can pool ever, get "ahead" with this kind of negtive talk? It's not as if he's done the unspeakable, he's not a molister, murderer.
I have been here for years, and pool "never" gets a good rap.......Some just have to stir.
People who talk about others, is someone who wants to be heard, honks his own horn, time and again.....
Imagine this, two or three pro-players are going to do a show for future sponsership, and they are introduced, as jail bird, #1, #2 and #3, ..
Now Ladies and Gents, please forgive and forget there past, but these guys are going to do a great job repersenting your company and it's products on TV and bill boards....... HOW FAR WOULD THIS GO????????????????
So this being the case, what about the guy who have not been to jail? What does this negtive talk do for them?
Maybe just maybe, this is why were not on TV everyday, and considered a national sport, and not in the Olimpic's????
Droping this type of information for all to see and hear, might just knock the guy from a major sponser. A major sponser would check out whoever they are interested in, before signing on the dotted line. But, some might over look ones past, after reviewing his past. But if it's common knowlege, the sponcer might, forget him, so he's not got a chance, to prove himself.
Why does one have to bring up dirt, on someone anyway?
It's called GOSSOP..........or in my books, bull shit.
I'll ask again, if this were you or a family member, would you want the past walked on, over and over????????????? Serves no purpose, other than, [bull shit] GOSSOP......Some folks thrive on it.....
Rick, that's what I was trying to say....
