I'm thinking of getting one.
I hear good things about the Porper but it doesn't come with a shoulder strap which I would like to have.
I saw that the Sterling bag has a shoulder strap, how does it compare to the Porper bag in terms of quality and protectiveness?

Any other suggestions for traveling bags that can hold a 2x4 or a 3x5 tube cases (like the instroke case)?

I have a ZERO Halliburton case but it's not that comfortable to travel with.

Skor,

If you can't find the perfect bag for you with a shoulder strap, consider the local shoe repair shop. Most of the good shoe repair shops around here do a lot repair work on leather handbags, and they can easily put on a shoulder strap for you.

Samm Diep has some suggestions on her web site for luggage that you can use with your cases.

Here's the link: Samm's Pocket.

I'm looking at the Timberland Adventure Trekker. Here's a link to a 32" one that I think would be just about perfect for a cue case.

I hear a lot of good things about the Cue-Pak from folks that have it:

Although I don't personally own one, it looks like a good product, and I'm thinking of one for myself...

Hope this is helpful,

I designed the Sterling one. It has the following features not found on other bags;

It has a zipper that goes the length of the case and down one end for easy loading and unloading.

It has a COMFORTABLE side handle and top handle for easy carrying and loading/unloading into cars, luggage trolleys etc. The handles all lock with velcro so the case can be attached to other luggage if need be.

The shoulder strap is ergonomic, FULLY ADJUSTABLE in any direction and REVERSIBLE in 2 seconds for wear on either shoulder. The strap features a rubber non-slip pad so that you are not fighting with the case as you are moving through the airport.

THe case itself is made of strong nylon and uses a large heavy duty zipper with zipper pulls that are lockable. It is nicely padded and FITS two 2x4 cases easily.

All that for $39.00

As someone who has traveled all over the world many times and used all the other ones, INLCUDING duffel bags and softball bat bags I designed this one to do just exactly what I wanted for cue cases.

Regarding duffels you need to consider the following things:

Make sure that the OPENING of the duffel will accept your case. Don't go by the total length. Most 32 inch side loading duffels DO NOT have a large enough opening to accept a cue case without some serious effort if at all. Make sure that the INTERIOR measurement is enough. You never know how the website measured the bag and whether the measurement is interior capacity or exterior size. Finally, know that most duffels are not padded so you will need to cushion your case with something. That said I have used oversized duffels quite a bit and find that they are very useful.

Regarding things like the TuffPak that was shown in an earlier post: There are many such solutions that will work for FAR LESS than $300.

Go looking for tradeshow cases, light cases for photographers etc... you can find some that would work sizewise for anywhere between $50 and hundreds.

Finally, you can go to Home Depot and make one out of plumbing tubing and duct tape for the easy way and with latches and such for the harder way.

Or just buy ours for $39 and be worry-free. :-)

I USED to just run to FedEx and grab one of their long triangle shaped cartons and slap the case in there before flying. I would go overseas and the airlines insisted the check in case had to be hard- but they included cardboard as hard. It's still a free alternative in a pinch.

THEN. Last year I was in Vegas doing my free cardboard trick and on leaving, saw they had soft bags that you could slip your regular 3x5 case in with room at the ends for shoes, etc., so I grabbed that and was very happy. Especially with the ability to stuff shoes in there.

UNTIL. A month ago I flew on United with my cues in that soft travel bag and learned that not only do we have to pay extra for every check in item, but the rate for soft check ins is more expensive than the rate for hard check ins. So ultimately I think you save money in the long run going for the hard travel bag, but you may also lose on the ability to stuff.

CocoboloCowboy and Ponytail,

Thanks, I am aware of those options but I usually mix business with pool so most of my close needs to wrinkleless.... so all those duffel bags are not an option.

sfleinen,
Thanks for suggestion, I wasn't aware of this product. The thing is that it'll be just as uncomfortable as the ZERO Halliburton case when it comes for traveling.

blah blah,
thanks for sharing. All my flights are international and I do NOT pay extra for check-in items....

John,
Thanks for the info, this bag does look like the best option for me. Would a 3x7 Instroke fit in it? it's not a big deal if it doesn't as most likely I'll just pack a 2x4.

Easily. It can fit a 4x8, 3x7, or two 2x4s.

Since the dawn of this new security era in the airlines.................I found a simple solution. I already owned one of those foldable beach chairs and it comes in a very sturdy nylon cover.
I wrap my cue case with a beach towel and stuff the whole thing in the nylon cover. I have done this for the last 4 years going to and from the BCA in Vegas. The cover has a few scrapes on it but my cue case is protected pretty good.
