Traveling by airline with cues

I have a question about traveling by airline with my cues. Are you typically allowed to carry on your cues to the airplane or do they try to make you check them? I'm not checking them in case they're lost, I just wondered what everybody in this situation does.

Thanks,

Travis McKinney

I'd ship them Fed Ex to the city you're traveling to. Insure them for what they are worth. Simply have them hold for pickup and you are all set.

They will not allow you to carry them on, you have to check them. The fed ex thing sounds like a good idea if you are worried about lost luggage.

I bought a very large duffel bag that fits both my clothing and my case (with cues inside). This is actually very convenient.

When I had planned to take my cues from DC to Detroit a couple weeks ago, Don Purdy advised me to use USPS or FedEx, mentioning that he has known several stories of folks having their cues "lost" by airlines. I didn't really have time, so I left them behind. If I plan to travel by plane and take my cues, I'll be shipping them ahead of me.

Cues are considered a weapon and a banned item from carry-ons. I travel with a sneaky pete which fits diagonally in my large suitcase, and fold up a soft case for use when I'm there.

I purchased a case from Joe Proper for $ 40 that is padded and has zipper tags large enough to put a lock on it. You have to unlock it for them to inspect but after that, it stays locked until you arrive at your destination.

I travel quite a bit and have (knock on wood) never lost my cue. Anytime you travel you need to tag your things.

If the next time I travel I lose my case, I will blame it on you for asking that question (just jokin') LOL. You know murphy's law. I believe the should rename it in my case and call it Marr's Law.

Well, thanks guys for helping me out with this. I have since learned that cues are indeed banned from carry-ons. I will definitely be shipping them ahead of me. Thanks for the advice.

I travel over-seas and here in the states with the air/lines. I either ship them fed-x or UPS, or if I elect to have them fly with me, I use a very big suit case that will allow me to put the cues, cross ways in the suit case. Out of site so to speak.

They won't let us take our cues and or a finger nail clipper, but you can take a ball point pin and or a penclie. Think about how much damage you can do with either. Run it in an eye or ear, you could kill someone. But the goverment knows best. Right??????
Can't imagine how one would high-jack a plane with a cue.

Correct me if I'm wrong but at last year's WPC the players from Puerto Rico had their cues lost by an airline, a little inconvinient when you just travelled thousands of miles and are getting ready to play in the biggest tournament of the year:(

I have one fairly nice playing cue that goes in my checked luggage and I have a inexpesive Action cue in a soft case that I take when I deploy to the desert. I take a 2 pc Duffrin house cue along to break with. If any of them get lost, folded, spindled, or mutilated, is not the end of the world.......my "A" Player never gets checked on an aircraft and only travels with me in person.

I just put mmy cue in a case then put that case in a big luggage with my clothes and other soft things. Wut puzzles me is that we can't carry cues but i seem alot of people carrying their big guitars as a carry on.

I sure can, I am a martial artist and trained in Kendo. Let me put my cue together, I can kill all 200 of you on the plane and not one of you can stop me. A cue is a very dangerous weapon in my hands. :D

I bought a golf bag, removed the inside club dividers so its now wide open, I place two 3x6 pool cases inside the golf bag, 8 cues and 17 shafts, Zip up the hood of the golf bag, then that goes inside a heavy travel bag designed to go over the golf bag, it zips up and closes over the golf bag and has a handle to pull on it and wheels, it counts as only one piece of luggage. These can be acquired at golf stores and this set up just went around the world with me with no problems anywhere. You are looking at about $200 for this set up, but this is the only way if you want to move a lot of cues and nice cases around with no hassles. If its just one cue, get a large suit case, pad it and stick it inside. :D

Awww, come on. It's obvious that the hijacker can poke someone's eye out with a cue. If it happens to be the captain then how can he see where he's flying... :-) sheesh...

I wonder, if conductors are allowed to carry that stick they wave in front of the orchestra... :-)

a nail clipper? sheesh again my point with people being allowed with guitars. Haveyou seen people carrying em, damn they're flippin huge!

And how about steel-cap boots ? In some countries, if you beat up someone with those, it's considered assault with deadly weapon. So, if you have steel-cap boots, will the airport security personnel force you to take them off and check them in ? :-)

Come on, you can beat someone to death even with your shoe or bag ! Let's ban them as well. Nice wet-sock -odour on flights from now on....

Your memory is correct. Both players flew KLM via Amsterdam. The cues got stranded in Amsterdam and they had to play with borrowed cues. That would suck.
