Traveling with your cue

I am spending this week in NY ; I live in Colorado. I didn't bring my cue because I wasn't sure what the rules were on traveling with a cue, Whether it can be carried on and stowed in the overhead or whether you have to check it And if you check it is it safe to just pack the case in a larger suitcase padded with clothes? And this wasn't intended to be a billiards-heavy trip anyway, so not bringing my cue was not that big a deal.

But I was planning to, and have, visited a couple of places along the way: Carom Cafe and Bayshore Billiards, and I may be coming back for the Verhoeven so now if I return I want to bring my cue. Playing with house cues wasn't all that great.

So can any of the travelers here give me any guidance and advice? What is the best way to do this. I thought about shipping it but it is the only cue I have so what would I play with while it was in transit.

I'd appreciate any advice.
 
No way

All I hear is no cues on board, I just flew to ST. Thomas , Atlanta, Boston, I say all kinds of people with tubes ,, cardboard and hard plastic that would hold a cue easy, I also watched a couple guys walk up to the desk they have at the boarding gate and ask if they could bring it on, all where able to get on,,, Just put your cue in some kind of round tube,,,,,,
 
why risk getting your cue confiscated??
put it in a hard case and put it in a duffle bag with your clothes and send it as checked baggage
if you want put a tsa lock on it
 
My "system": I leave my 2/5 hard shell cue case at home, and use a cheap fake leather thingy that easily holds one butt, two or three shafts and all the paraphernalia. Butt and shafts go diagonally in my suitcase. When in the Carom Cafe in NY, there will always be a local player who will let you use their locker, or you can leave your cue behind the counter and the staff will give you a receipt. Don't ever check a cue case with a number lock that is not a TSA lock. TSA will force the lock (impossible to repair), and leave you a note that says: "we are allowed to do this, if you have a complaint, go f*** yourself". Happened to me of course, how else would I know?
