Anyone read that article in BD? It looks like the Seminoles want to really get into pool among other things. They are building arenas in Tampa and Hollywood Florida which should be ready in 2004.

They signed Vivian Villarreal and Cory Deuel to formal agreements back in July.

They want to be a major force in the pro pool world.

As a prelude to launching a men's tour they are planning to stage three $100,000 added pro events next year.

I am surprised that I have not read anything on the boards about this move to form a pro men's tour next year. And the Seminoles have money behind them. I hope the Pro's check into this before they sign any binding contracts with someone else for 2004. And it might help to be on the good side of Cory. LOL

The Seminoles are looking to see which groups they will be working with since they don't want to re-invent the wheel. The article doesn't mention which groups they have been talking to. But could this be the real reason CW is giving up his position in the UPA?

Any chance these events would be UPA sanctioned?

Well, this thread got my attention. $100,000-added event by the Seminoles.

Explains why Corey wouldn't sign. Sounds like Corey doesn't need to worry about UPA ranking points (IMO). And I'll just bet the Seminoles won't force pool players to sign contracts to attend.

Charlie Williams may be stepping down as self-appointed president of the UPA, but he will still be on the board of directors. But I don't think the UPA can interrupt excellence. The Seminoles may be the shot in the arm that pool has been sorely needing.

Do the Seminoles have a website where one may obtain further information on upcoming events? I can think of six pool players, just off the top of my head, UPA-designated "touring pros" who would be extremely interested in learning more.

Maybe if you e-mail them and can get in contact with O.B.Osceola Jr., the Tribe's liasison in the Naples community he can fill you in on the details.

Or, get in contact with Grady Matthews. I believe he worked with them for his senior tour that was recently held in Naples.

Naples, where the trees have leaves of $50 bills. Anything smaller is trash and they cut them down. LOL

Wow What can I say. I believe the Seminole Tribe has been the best sponsor for amrture pool as well as regional pool for quite some time. Our interest in Mens Professional Billiards is very well suited for a Native American Tribe. My Tribe has been supporting billiards for quite sometime. We picked Corey Deuel as our sponsored player because we believe he has the sport as a priority (above golf as most people think) in his heart. I have very mixed emotions regarding Charlie and the UPA. When Charlie inquired a year ago about the Tribe sponsoring the UPA Chanpionships he was only concerned about what benefited Dragon Promotions not the Players or the UPA. At my own expense I retained at my own personal expense a top Fla attorney who stongly advised not just Corey but any professional player from signing the UPA contract. If Anyone would like to see the official response to the UPA from Corey please let me know and it will be available. There is a reason players should be reluctant to jump on Charlie's band wagon.

O.B., I have never met you, but have heard nothing but positive and wonderful things about your involvement and the Seminole Tribe of Florida in men's pool.

There's a lot of folks out here, pool folks, who really appreciate the Seminole Tribe of Florida's contributions to men's pool, and there are some delightful rumors going around that the Seminoles may play an even greater role, something sorely needed right now.

The seniors tournaments, Grady's and the upcoming Mizerak, sponsored by the Seminoles are eagerly followed by most of us around the country. First-class events. Jose Parica couldn't say enough nice things about the Seminoles, after winning the seniors tourmament. The facility looked absolutely gorgeous. Wish I could have been there.

Everyone who knows pool players is well aware of Corey's accomplishments and his contributions to the sport. When he walks into any tournament venue, everyone wants to watch him shoot. He has a huge and strong following, not to mention all of those young ladies who have kind of taken a liking to him. He does have a fan club. And guess what, most of the other top pool players play and enjoy golf, so Corey is in good company.

Bravo to the Seminoles! They have a proven track record, and they also have my support.

Trying to reach you to find out your interest in sponsorship support for our amatuer 9-ball tours in Florida and the Carolinas. Your organization, as both you and other posts on this site have mentioned, have been very supportive of amateur billiards in the past. We have been in operation for approximately 6 years and have a very strong following of amateur 9-ball players in Florida. We would love to send you copies of our 2004 upcoming season. Bankshots, in Ocala, has one posted there but no extra copies laying around. I know several of the guys who play in your tournaments and they all like it and think you are doing a great job. Keep up the good work.

Suggest you contact John DiToro and the Florida Men's Tour when considering a new Men's Pro Tour.

Don't know John personally but from what I hear he is doing the right thing with the new revised Florida Pro Tour.

But, most important, I am sure that he can get in contact with all the top pros in the business and is most likely on a first name basis with them. He would probably be a valuable consultant in getting your tour off the ground. Help you avoid unnecesary pitfalls.

Looking forward to good times ahead for pool in 2004.

Jake, thank you for your suggestion re: John Ditoro. John is a good friend of mine and because of his involvement with the Fla. Mens Pro Tour the Seminole Tribe has been proud to be a sponsor of the tour. I will be talking with John at the State Championships Nov. 1,2 about a new tour for 2004. Hope to see you at Capones.

that is yet to be determined. but because the seminoles can offer up the money, something CW never had and thus lacked muscle,,,,they can force, and the player would say when, anything they please.

since the men need organization, they SHOULD make the men accountable,,,,something the men have never been required to do before.

and they can start with a DRESS CODE

it is a moot point at this juncture. the seminoles have the money, the seminoles have the venue. and if CW were truely honest about this, he would relieve himself of all the headache and abuse,,, and defer to the seminoles anyway, because they offer a great package deal.

All right, Bruin70, you don't have to say it twice.;)

Make the men accountable? I'm not too sure what you mean, but I would be interested to hear more.

Most tournaments I've attended recently seem to have a dress code, shirts with a collar and no sneakers or jeans. Are you thinking something more formal? I could see this, too, in a ballroom setting with pool players wearing formal attire, and it would create a different amtosphere which may be something to consider.

The Seminoles have never used strong arm tactics and enjoy a sterling reputation in this pool world. I hope they hook up with other Tribes. There are numerous Indian gaming facilities around the country to house pool tournaments.
