EWA MATAYA LAURANCE and Allison Fisher were on TV recently doing trick shots. One of the shots is as follows - put a ball in front of the left down table pocket about 2" from the pocket.. Now take two more balls and put them against the long rail. Now place the c/b about three feet front the two balls on the rail and about 5 inches off the rail. Use high left english and make the c/b push the two balls out of the way and the cue ball sinks the ball in front of the pocket.

I have tried this many times and I can't do this shot.
 
If I correctly recall the shot you are describing...you need to hit the first OB full in the face. It seems odd, but it works. Not sure what you're experiencing on your misses...
 
What's happening is the second ball (the closest ball to the ball in front of the pocket) is hitting the ball into the pocket, instead of the c/b hitting it. i'll try what you suggested.

A video would really be ideal.

Yeah, hit the first ball pretty full with follow. Make sure you place the cue ball in the same place each time.
