Trimming the tip?

Just curious as to who uses what to trim the tip when mushrooming occurs. I've used a tip tool in the past but it always seemed to scrath my ferrule.

Most tip tools out there scratch up the ferrule no matter how careful you are with them. There are 2 easy but temporary solutions that I use if a player can not wait for me to hold onto their shaft a few days. One way is to take the shaft and rub the tip against a flat, smooth and hard surface. Another is just rolling a rack over the tip to push it back in place. As I said though, these are only temporary but they will not damage your ferrule. A more permanent solution is to throw it on a lathe and just trim it. If you don't have a lathe use a razor and place your shaft tip side down on a stable hard surface. With the razor touching the side of the ferrule cut downwards on the mushroomed part of your tip. Be very careful when doing this as to not to cut into the ferrule.

i use the porper mushroom grazer to trim down my newly installed tips. i've never had a problem with tips mushrooming, but i'm sure this tool would do the job. and as long as youre carefull, there's no reason why you should damage the ferrule.

I own Porper`s "Cut-Rite" Tip Shaper/Cutter, but I'm told that I can't use it on my Sniper tip without risking damage to the tip :( 'Course, the sniper tip has not yet mushroomed enough to need trimming, so I guess it's all good. :)

I use one of these little pencil sharpener looking tools

I don't have a local professional repairman that I'm aware of. If anyone knows of a good repairman around the metro Detroit area I'm all ears.

I use a crutch tool. It fits in a drill and holds the shaft. If your handy it can be trimmed with a blade or a sandpapaer nail file then burnished. A pin to fit your shaft can be used in a drill as well. It makes short work of trimming a little mushroom. It works so much better and faster than anything posted. Obviously a lathe is the best option.

ewww @ mushrooms. I havent mushroomed since i first started playing with mooris. my sniper stays the same till its gone.

That's because they are asking the same question? DUH! :p :D
Also they are simple. They work good. They fit easily in your case.:D :D
The ones I got came from overseas. Has anyone else ever seen these? Does Mueller have them?
I do have a few extra, but they are not for sale. :p Silly to ship just it.
However I will give the few I have for free to anyone that purchases some cues from me. Please check my thread.

Check this Veiw. The opening is coned shaped you have to be careful to keep the shaft paralell to the blade and it works great. It IS made for cues not pencils.:D
