We're back this Saturday at Whetzel's in Manassas, VA, for a special one day event. Due to an overwhelming amount of feedback on the new tour format, we went back to the drawing board and will be trying a new format for the tournament this Saturday July 3rd. We understand the continued change in format may be confusing, we hope you understand, we are doing everything possible to return to a thriving competitive pool arena in the Metro DC area while dealing with an ever changing economic background for the pool rooms.
Three items for the new format - 1) Round Robin Tournament Play culminating in single elimination play offs for the players making the money rounds 2) Staggered Entry Fees based on skill level 3) Staggered payout based on winning position, 1/4 of the field payout.
1) Round Robin Format - for those of you who have watched the World Cup - you're familiar with this format. This format allows us to play any number of players and allows for byes if we have an odd number of players.
First Round - We will be dividing the entrants up into groups of 8 - you will play everyone in your group a race to 3 to decide who moves on. This guarantees more play time, and the best of each group moves on. Winners of each division will be decided on number of matches won, then win/loss percentage, and if there are any further ties, we will move to who won the match between the the tied players.
Second Round - based on placement in your groups, you will be divided into groups of 4. You will play everyone in your group races to 4 to decide who moves forward. 1st place in each group moves on, 2nd place cashes, 3rd and 4th are knocked out.
Continuing Rounds - The final 1/8th of the field will play out in a single elimination format - starting with an alternating break, race to 6 for the first round, race to 7 for the second round and race to 8 for the finals.
2) Staggered Entry Fees - We will be staggering the entry fees for this event based on skill level. For the purposes of staggering entry fees - "A" players are considered to be Pro Players, Road Players and any other players having previously won or placed in an Open Tournament. ** Decisions regarding placement in the "A" player category are up to the sole descretion of the tournament director.
"A" Players - $60 entry + $5 Registration Fee
Non-"A" Players - $45 entry + $5 Registration Fee
Women/Juniors - $30 entry + $5 Registration Fee
3) Payout - 1/4 of the field will be paid out - final 8 will have a staggered payout based on their winning finish.

We are also still hosting weeknight tournaments at Whetzel's on Monday nights and First Break on Friday night. Come out this Friday night to First Break - we will be incorporating the new round robin format at that event. Entry fee for weeknight tournaments is $20 for men, $10 for ladies.
