True Rack Report • JoeyA rating: 8

JoeyA Rating System: 1-10

JoeyA Thank you so much for posting the review of the True Rack. I wanted to ask if you have had a chance to try it on a bar box if so what conclusions did you come to on using the True Rack on a bar table.

I see you gave the True Rack an 8 out of 10 which I think is a pretty good score. If you do not mind me asking what score would you give a Delta 13 rack so we can understand your scoring system. I am glad to see you and others thought the rack enabled a tight rack, I am confident we can rack the balls as well as any conventional rack including the Delta.

I heard your suggestion of a carrying case or sleeve for the True Rack and will be working through some possibilities. I currently carry mine in my case and have had no issues, my usual case is 4x8 butter fly I have the rack in the middle of the case. Others players around Indianpolis also carry the True Rack in their case mostly in the long outer pocket of the case.

We produce the True Rack out of the highest quality componenets and materials. The rack is made to last a lifetime and it feels good in the hnds of the racker. I designed it to be a precision tool and it has the feeling of quality. I understand you thought it felt heavy, we wanted it to feel solid the True Rack weighs 1lb 11oz, it is made of billet aluminum with a ground tool steel pin, there are no threads in the assembly. The anodizing is bright and available in 3 colors red, blue and black.

I have some pictures some of a few custom racks with the owners personalized artwork. Az's own Williebetmore got art similiar to his Jack Justis case. I have my name on my rack and there has been some graphics on a couple of racks. I will try to post up some of these customized rack pictures. I think your suggestion of a cell phone number is an excellent idea. I will be putting my number on my rack the next time I send a batch to the laser engraver.

Joey I look forward to hearing back from you with the results of the True Rack on a bar table.

Thanks Dana Stephenson - True Rack designer

Dana,
I will be testing the True Rack on the bar tables very soon and will post the results in this thread.

The Delta 13 which is an excellent rack which I have used off and on for a couple of years now but it would not get a rating as high as the True Rack, primarily because of it's bulk, limited portability, it's inability to "tighten" itself around the racked balls and it's inability to "spread" itself without disturbing the rack. The rating I would give the Delta 13 rack is a 7.5. My rating of the True Rack could easily change one way or the other after testing it under bar table conditions. Just for the record, I do not believe there is any rack that I will ever rate 10.0.

I especially like the precision machined aluminum of the Delta 13 and the True Rack. You can feel the quality in both products.

On my Jack Justis cue case, I have only one large pouch and it is quite large enough to easily hold the True Rack but I would have to remove too much of my other pool pararphenalia. The pouch currently is utilized as a survival kit with supplies, medicines, and various pool-related items.:D

Can you post a picture of a couple of the custom engraved racks for me to see? Williebetmore made a suggestion for my True Rack about the POW-MIA logo that I like quite well. I will think about this for a while before I make the decision to have it engraved.

Looks great for the road played. I guess you could store it in the long pouch on your case. What would stop me is the $119.95. But my wife does call me a tight butt.

If you send one ti China, they can probably copy the design and sell it for $59.95. The name would probably be changed to "TWU WACK". :p

Design Question

JoeyA thanks for the review. I like the fact that it folds up compactly. I have a question, it seems to me over time opening the rack may cause it to loosen up? Meaning it might open up wider due to wear of the stops? This may not be an isuue as it looks extremely well built. Take Care, Barney

Barney,
I wouldn't be able to comment on that without experience and I have the feeling it will take a LONG, LONG time to learn if it will ever loosen up. The smoothness in which it opens and closes, tells me that there is not much abrasion going on and it would take tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of opening and closings to show any wear but that's just my guess. There are hardly any moving parts and the ones that do move move smoothly.

Sorry for the delay in posting up some images of the custom racks. I have pictures but they were all more or less snap shots when I delivered the racks. Each of these has issues with flash and bright spots and I kept thinking I would see these racks and get some better images but that has not happed yet so here are the picts I have.

For anyone interested in a customized rack the laser leaves behind a dull white color where the anodized material is removed. The marking is very distinct and is applied with a CNC laser. Custom images are 2 color the anodize and the lasered gray. The art has to be in vector form, an Adobe Illustrator file in outline form.
