Trump

So I'm watch Trump the other day and they gave a close up, how does he play with a tip like this. The guy is kind of a legend when it comes to English and moving the ball around the table.

It looks like it works better like that. I’ve tried to let my tip mushroom into a snooker style but it never happens lol. I’m pretty sure they have an oversized tip, compared to ferrule size, and they just let it get bent back around the edges.

They wouldn’t rock it like that if it was a hinderance of any kind. It either helps or at least doesn’t hurt.

yea but they're also devastated if their tip breaks during a tournament, not to mention if something happens to the cue

That show we (pool players) give too much atention to equipment... Trump does whatever he wants with the cue ball and not even need the cue to be a 200% weapon.
He plays with a John Parris custom cue.

That's about a standard tip for snooker players, don't know why, maybe because the cues are so thin they use that tip shape to compensate, I mean that tip diameter is not really the ferrule diameter. If a pool player shot with a 12-13 mm tip mushroomed like that it would likely miscue on a lot of spin shots and low draw shots.

If that is what it takes to hit the CB with over 2 tips of English, move it 8 feet to exactly where I want it,...... and not miscue -- I'm all in.
Kinda hard to see what English he is using in that pic.

I commented in another thread a while back that was the way Efren's tip looked like the first time I saw him play. In fact, the whole cue didn't look much better.

Tip looks perfect for snooker to me

For pool with bigger balls, different cue it would be a problem.

I watch a lot of snooker, there not all like that. Barry Hawkins tip is. its really mushroomed out. John Higgins uses a layered tip and Mark Williams uses a very hard tip on his.like a water buffalo. And ronnie uses elkmasters and goes by the sound of them. Thay don't last long, on his. That's why at a world championships, he went through about 15 tips. Ding junhui uses brunswick diamond tips, that are put in an oven to harden. Before there put on.There very picky when it comes to chalk too. Only ronnie and trump are the last ones still using the traditional green triangle chalk. every one else has moved over to the toam stuff.

Ronnie O. said one time he changed tips over 15times during a long event. They do it with a sharp knife and sandpaper.
Ronnie doesn't change his own tips AFAIK, he has a tip guy.

Well if you can just throw an oversized tip on your cue piece and start playing then I don’t see a need a’tall for a tip guy.

I don’t have a lathe or the space. No one does tips close to me that I’ve found so far. Maybe the answer is a snooker cue or something around like 12mm and I can just buy 13mm tips and slap them on as centered as possible and start shooting. Yes.
