Turn my Adam into a break stick?

I've been having a lot of problems with my slow/soft shots, and my 21oz Adam isn't exactly helping. I'm thinking of getting an 18oz weight-adjustable shoot stick and using the Adam butt for a breaker. I don't have the original shaft for the Adam anyway. I've read that damage can occur to the ferrule if you use a non-dedicated break stick to regularly break with, is there any damage that would occur to the butt if I had a properly made break shaft made for it? Or would I be better off waiting and getting a complete break cue? I'm not worried about masse or jump shots, I'm not even trying those until my skill improves. Also, what makes a "break shaft"? I know most have phenolic ferrules and/or tips, but I believe the APA requires a leather tip.

If I had the money I'd love to get a Joss Thor's Hammer, but my main savings are going towards a good shoot stick.

Your 11mm shaft won't help your break any id have a shaft made that is atleast 12.5mm and a stiff taper put a hard tip on it and whammo "on the snap vince" lol or take the weight out if you need a lighter playing cue.

Oh, I wouldn't use the shaft that's on it. It's a cheap "Wal-Mart" shaft, flexible, and like you said the 11mm just isn't a good idea.

I was thinking 13mm or 14mm, straight taper, phenolic ferrule and a hard or medium-hard tip, depending on how much english I want on it.

My particular Adam is not weight adjustable. I pulled the bumper out, nothing but wood underneath. I've been told that this is not common, but it is found on older Adam cues sometimes.

Just wondering if it would be worthwhile to have a break shaft made for the Adam or hold out and get a completely new break stick. The Joss can be had for $220-250, but I'm definitely going to get a new shoot stick before I get a dedicated break stick.

A nice shaft will cost 150-250 on average. You need to figure out if you need a light brek cue or a heavy one first.

Spend the money on quality stuff first and foremost if you intend on sticking with playing pool. That Wal Mart stuff will only hurt your game in the long run.

The "Wal-Mart" shaft was just a spare shaft a friend had after the original shaft got broken. I was still a casual player at the time.

If it's going to cost $250 for a break shaft, I might as well get the Joss Hammer. I go for a slower, more controlled break now, so I'll probably go with the heavy version.

I'm still weighing options and saving up for a quality shoot stick. The "hot rod" cue I mentioned in another thread is still stuck in my mind, but I'm wanting a lighter stick, weight adjustable, low deflection. A friend of mine has a Dale Perry with an OB2 and that thing is incredible.

I guess I'll eventually get a decent replacement shaft made for the Adam and just keep it as a family heirloom.
