I've been having a lot of problems with my slow/soft shots, and my 21oz Adam isn't exactly helping. I'm thinking of getting an 18oz weight-adjustable shoot stick and using the Adam butt for a breaker. I don't have the original shaft for the Adam anyway. I've read that damage can occur to the ferrule if you use a non-dedicated break stick to regularly break with, is there any damage that would occur to the butt if I had a properly made break shaft made for it? Or would I be better off waiting and getting a complete break cue? I'm not worried about masse or jump shots, I'm not even trying those until my skill improves. Also, what makes a "break shaft"? I know most have phenolic ferrules and/or tips, but I believe the APA requires a leather tip.
If I had the money I'd love to get a Joss Thor's Hammer, but my main savings are going towards a good shoot stick.
