Turning down an ob-1 shaft

Has anyone done this or had it done? I just spoke with Royce, and he said to stay above 12 mm to be safe. I really want to turn this thing down, as I have grown accustomed to thinner shafts.
 
According to Royce, the interior of the end 4 inches is filled with balsa wood (after that, it's foam core to reduce vibration). The insert is 0.406 inches thick (about 10.3 mm) which would leave me with only about 1.225 mm of ferrule thickness on each side of the insert. If I were to turn the shaft down to say 12mm, the ferrule would only be 0.880 mm thick on each side. Ouch! less than 1mm thickness for a maple ferrule that is layered and glued. Sounds risky to me.

I have an ob1 that was turned down, I bought it from Bill at cornerstone. I think it's right around 12mm I will measure it tonight when I get home and let you.

I may even want to sell it if you are interested. It's a 5/16X14. I have two and just don't use this one that much anymore I am now just used to the 12.75mm. I did play with for about 3 months and I had no issues with it at all

thanks for the reply and for the offer, but I wouldn't need to buy one if I can just turn this one down.
