turning down LD shafts?

I like 12.2 + mm tips on my cues and no manufacturer makes them that size( I take that back- Jacoby Edge Hybrid can be had in this size). I noticed one of the supply houses offers to turn down Lucasi Hybrid Slim shafts from the factory 11.75 to several smaller sizes with the smallest being 11mm. I was thinking that if this is ok to do I could get a Lucasi Hybrid that is the factory 12.75mm and have it turned to 12.2-12.3. I see there is a Preditor 314 Fat for sale on this forum that has been turned to 12.25 and I am tempted to purchase it. Do any of you have experience with this modification. Does the factory state that their warranty is voided when this is done. It is more important to me to know if this destroys the shafts playability etc...

Red,

Our minimum on an OB-1 or OB Classic (which both start at 12.75mm) is 12.25mm to remain under warranty. I believe Predator is also 12.25mm on their 314-2 but I would check with them to make sure.

bore size

I want to ask what the bore sizes are of the Ld Shafts But I am sure that infor is restricked.

At a certain point all you are making is a wooden straw.

Im sure It can be done but It might be better to get one custom made with a smaller bore .

Has anyone turned down a LD shaft and then tested the deflection properties?

Turning down any shaft will cause it squirt the cue ball less.

a. You are removing weight from the front of the shaft, same thing drilling the hole does. Less front end shaft weight = less squirt.

2. Smaller diameter tip will strike the cue ball closer to center. Hit the cue ball closer to center = less squirt.

You can order a Z2 with an 11.3mm tip from Seyberts.

But realistically, any shaft maker can make a LD cue in any size you desire. Have them put the taper you desire on the shaft, then have them drill out the core of the shaft Leaving 3mm wall thickness, and install a tenon at the front of the bore, then a ferrule around the tenon, and presto, an LD shaft at what ever shaft tip size and taper you happen to like.

i play with a jacoby cue and i had them make me a hybrid shaft for it at 12.25. i also have a 314 2 that i bought from seybert's and had them take it down to 12.3. both shafts play fine and they are comparable in the deflection department, but i noticed the predator has slightly less deflection. ive played with stock predator shafts before and noticed no difference between those and the one i had taken down

ld shafts

Buy an OB and Brand P shaft, fire up the band or table saw, rip them up the middle and all that restricted info is now unrestricted.

Thank you for the thought there is a video of someone cutting up a ob shaft
But I really dont care I am very happy with the cues I have now or on order.

The whole Ld, Laminated shaft thing is ok and I own a very nice cue with
a LD shaft but I still like the way my main player, plays..

Plus trying to prove a point, and just woundering what the specs are.
Are 2 different things ,and im not hell bent to prove anything to any one .
I am suggesting that normaly things get weaker when they are made thinner and lighter.

I just ordered a 12.5mm 314-2 from someone, it was originally done by Seyberts. I have a standard 314-2 now (12.75mm), so I'm curious to see if there is any measurable difference in squirt between the two. I'll let you know if there is.
