Turning drills into a game

Nearly every time I practice I do a few drills before I ever rack the balls. Sometimes it can get tedious, so I would add in different drills to keep it new. If there is one thing I have learned about practicing is that when you keep things fresh your progression speeds up.

A month or so ago I started doing the two following drills along with a tried and true drill I never stray from. Each time I do these two I'll change up the rules for the day to make the drill a game. Just thought I would share these and maybe someone will find out that drills can be fun too.

This first drill I've been working on I tend to go in order, using only follow and only using corner pockets. Here and there I will use all spots on the CB, but then the rule changes shooting any ball and it has to go into a corner pocket in clockwise motion.

This drill is pretty fun and you can use a high variety of rules for it. I started out with the first 4 balls and last 4 balls have to go into the same pocket along with the rule that you can only skip one ball and your next shot has to be the ball you skipped. I have of course shot them in order, worked both sides of the table and other rules. I think my next rule will be to skip a ball all the way up and then come back down. Once I do that I will skip a ball and then shoot the ball I skipped.

I could of course post a couple other drills, but that is not really the point. The point is that you can use any drill you want and make specific rules to it so it can be a game that makes things more fun and more challenging.

Interesting Idea, I also do a few drills before ever racking, I agree it can and does get tedious, Ill look into this and mixing it up a bit, not to be so tedious next time.

I started this after getting bored with drills. I'm the type of person that just won't get the best results if it can't keep my attention. I will admit that once I started doing this that drills started to become pretty fun and that has improved my game a little.
