Shawn Putnam - Turning Stone Classic XI

The tables at Hippos are similar to diamonds with nice tight pockets, but aren't diamonds. They are actually Gabriels. None the less, they are fantastic tables (smoking and non-smoking as well). There are actually 3 pool halls near Syracuse at about 30-40 miles away. Caps, Salt City, and Korky's. All of the addresses for these places are at www.cny9ball.com. I would bet that Caps has the best action but this might not be a valuable assessment considering I haven't been there in a few months.

Sorry skip2134 I was only there last august and I thought I remembered them to be diamonds. Either way I liked the tables and the room. I'm looking forward to going back. The whole thing in a fantastic chance to compete with and learn from some of the best in the world. It's worth the money for sure.

New York based Korean up-and-comer Bora Jeong has joined the list of confirmed players competing in the upcoming Turning Stone Classic XI event.., Jeong was the winner of the 2008 Amateur Women's Players Championship at the Super Billiards Expo last March and also won the Women's All-Around title at the Derby City Classic in 2007.., Bora is a former Korean Women's International Championship runner-up and was a member of Team Korea in 2005.., Bora Jeong is a past winner on the J. College Student Wins $100K at Heartland Poker Tour Event

Event Attracts 250 to Turning Stone in New York

Dan Smith will always remember his first live poker tournament cash, and he has his friends to thank. The 19-year-old University of Maryland student won the $1,500 Heartland Poker Tour event that was held at Turning Stone Casino this weekend after his buddies insisted that he join them in New York.

"I actually wanted to stay home and go to the beach," said Smith. "My buddies talked me into coming out here this weekend. I guess it worked out pretty well for me."

He won $101,960 for outlasting a field of 250. Smith went wire-to-wire in the two day event by taking an early chip lead and riding his stack to the end. Maybe he has New York Yankee Jaba Chamberlain to thank, as well. A diehard Yankee fan, he wore his lucky Chamberlain jersey for the event. He said most of the money will go toward education bills.

The top six finishers were:
  • Dan Smith (Manalapan, New Jersey) - $101,960
  • Nick Tollefson (Mountain Top, Pennsylvania) - $62,710
  • Greg Miller (Corning, New York) - $39,395
  • Carl Doyon (Montreal, Canada) - $28,045
  • Newton Graziano (Cheektowaga, New York) - $20,442
  • Garen Nichaniam (Montreal, Canada) - $15,714

Joss Tour Announces 2008-2009 Schedule

Mike Zuglan's Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour has announced it's schedule for the 2008-2009 season.

The tour will make 18 stops throughout the season, highlighted by two $25,000 added events at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino.

Added money for the other 16 stops varies from $1,500 to $5,000.

This marks the tour's twelfth season which kicks off in September.., the entire 2008-2009 schedule can be viewed at http://www.joss9balltour.com/schedule.asp .
