Pockets is a very nice poolroom in Tucson. They have a 9-ball tournament every Sunday @ 5:00 PM. It is Fargo handicapped, so anyone can win if they're playing very well. Typically ends around 12:30 AM depending on the field size.
They also have larger tournaments every two months, generally on Saturdays.
There are very strong players in Tucson who like to gamble. For example, Ruben Silva, AJ Jones, Ronnie Kidd, etc., are all in the upper 600s. There are many others in the 500s and lower 600s who play very strong and can't be underestimated.
Despite the relative small size of Tucson compared to Phoenix (where there are tournaments every night of the week in many poolrooms), when Tucsonians compete in Phoenix, they generally fare well.
I live 90 minutes away in Sierra Vista but will go up there occasionally to gamble or play in the tournament. I have an open invitation to play anyone even on my 9' Olhausen for up to $200 if they want to make the trip (but after that we might need to adjust!).
Cheers,
Steve
