For sale: two pernambuco blanks purchased from Gilmer Wood Company, Portland, Oregon, in 2014.
At the time of purchase, Gilmer advised that the stock had been in its inventory for approximately 25 years. The blanks have since been stored in my possession for an additional 12 years. Alexandria, Virginia, string instrument bow maker Donald Cohen examined the blanks and identified them as pernambuco. Pernambuco is a rare hardwood prized for high-end bows for orchestral string instruments.
Two sister blanks from the same lot were used to build custom cues that I designed and commissioned—one by Pete Tascarella and the other by Rick Phillippi. Photos of both cues are attached for reference.
The blank ends remain waxed as supplied by Gilmer Wood Company.
