What kind of wood should be used for a high end shaft? I know their are several different types of wood you could use, but what are the TOP 2 woods that are used for "high end" shafts?

Some pros like the stuff that comes from the fiberglass tree. :D

exspecially since the fiberglass tree grows commonly near the money tree
and then they can give the pro some if it for useing the inferior fiberglass wood

personally, I've been thinking about a bamboo shaft,,,after all I think bamboo is closely related to the coveted ramin wood used in the high dollar wal-mart cues :D :D

actually the question would better handled on "ask the cuemaker" forum,,,,I've heard of people using purpleheart for a shaft on a jump cue and the Flilpinos use a dark wood named kamagong for some of their shafts.

IMHO,,,,only two choices for shaft wood (1) maple and (2) maple,,,,,,jflan

I stand corrected,,,LOL,,,don't know where I am some days,,,LOLOLOL

in 'ask the cumaker forum' and didn't now it !

Hard Rock Maple

THANK YOU
That is the answer that I am looking for.

P.S. Why is it when you ask a serious question it takes several smartass replies before getting a deserving answer?

Mainly your production cues, are using a Maple Shaft. Now they come in different grades like A through AAAA. I believe a 5280 cue comes with a Grade A maple shaft. And basically your just paying for the difference in stiffness.

Most highend cues will probably use the better grade Maple, or PurpleHeart for thier shafts.

Why did you need such quick info on a question such as this? I don't think there are two top woods. Maple would be like 99.9%. What ever the second would be represents almost no percentage of the market at all except for Ash in snooker cues. Even the laminated and spliced shafts are still maple. I am not sure anyone took your question seriously.

Because I just received my new custom cue and I made a bet with a guy as to what type of wood the shaft was. I specified "hard rock maple" in my specs, but this guy was convinced that it was not "HRM". He wanted to bet on it and I figured this forum would be a quick and reliable source to prove him wrong! He was saying that it was some cheap OAK  He also said they did not even make shafts out of "HRM" When cash is on the line, I take that pretty seriously.

Just for future reference, what should I have wrote for you to take me seriously?

,,,what was just written would have immediately put almost everyone on your side and they would have 'chewed' on your pal for suggesting "oak",,,,

,,,of course, some would have 'chewed' on you because you didn't trust your cuemaker,,,

,,,personally, I think your friend was jealous and was trying make you doubt the value of your new cue,,,JMHO
