Hi

Newbie bridge questions...

I have only played snooker before so the only kind of bridge I can make is the open snooker kind.

What other kinds of bridge are there and when would you use them?

Any advice, including links to reliable web info and diagrams would be great.

there's lots of variations, but it generally boils down to open or closed bridges. if you play snooker, than you know how to use an open bridge and what to use it for. people generally used a closed bridge when they're trying to force the cue ball to do something un-natural like a big draw shot, although some people just prefer to shoot with a closed bridge on regular shots. On a side note, there is a "loop closed bridge" which is what most american players use - when you curl your pointer finger around the cue so it forms a loop. The other way is the filipino closed bridge, you do it by putting the cue on top of your middle finger and crossing your pointer finger over top of the cue - almost like you're crossing your fingers with the cue in between. I use the filipino way, but try both and see which way feels more comfortable for you.
