Typical percentage?

I'm thinking of putting someone in for a portion of the U.S. Open. What is a typical payout percentage, say for example if I paid $1000 towards entry, hotel, etc.?
 
Stake Horse splits winnings 50/50 in my day.

Horrible action IMHO, unless you write it off as entertainment.

I'm sure I'll get corrected by current day Hoss's!
