U.S. OPEN 2026, Frisco, Texas, August 25-30

Speaking of - anyone know what Capito was inhaling in his match? Obviously nothing illicit since he was doing it on live tv but when he was on the hill i noticed he pulled out a chapstick looking thing and took a whiff in each nostril. Also saw he's sponsored by "buzzup" which i couldn't find anything on. Was wondering if it was some kind of caffeine or nicotine thing.
Last year here in JAX at both the International and the Predator event there were a number of Asian players including Capito using those inhalers. It didn't appear that any of them were sick/congested, anything like that.

Shaw also gets credit for the world blackball championship and the straight pool record, not to mention his epic Mosconi Cup performances and his showmanship in the process. Without those he's not in the HOF.

From AtLarge's summary post of career Mosconi records, Shaw's is (10 yrs. -- 2016-2025) ..... 17-6 s, 16-11 d, 8-6 t, 41-23 total A (64%), 26.6-12.7 total B (68%).
Shaw is in the hof for his straight pool record alone..

Completely agree with this. We want to grow the sport and polarizing figures like Rogan aren't the way.

Matchroom mistook having a huge audience for being an effective bridge to a new audience. 9 Ball is back on ESPN and they picked the most divisive cultural ambassador they could find.
Polarizing ? He asks questions and likes to learn new things. You only find him divisive because he’s not a liberal yes man and wants to think for himself. He’s not polarizing at all. He brings people on his show of all political agendas. Don’t be mad because the candidate you most likely wanted to vote for couldn’t sit down and have a conversation with someone without being told the questions or limiting what they could talk about lol she did two podcasts. One that aired was a disaster and the other one was so bad they didn’t air it 😂 and now your mad at Rogan. lol

He’s credited in a big way for blowing up ufc I’d love to have him on more pool broadcast… like every pool broadcast so he could do the same for match room.

You people want pool to blow up but you don’t want to get with the times and use the media how you have to in the year 2026 to make it blow up.

I was expecting to see more people complaining about espn cutting the broadcast and changing the channel when it hit its 3 hour window. That’s all I read on fb today and to them I said the same thing. Stop being cheap and spend the lousy $10 a month to have the match room app and you’ll have all you want with no interruptions. It’s been working flawlessly . Everyone Wants the sport to succeed but they don’t want to spend a lousy $10 to help it lol

Preach! Speaking of the UFC, the same pool fan that will gripe about paying $90 or whatever the full derby city stream is the same person who will spend $70 or so on a UFC fight that is like 2-3 hours. We want pool to be treated like a sport, but then people don't support it like they do others sports. Makes no sense.

If Shane had been eligible for the HoF in 2021 - before the finally won the World 9b and World 8b - do you think he wouldn’t have been a lock?

Corey never won a world championship - although I don’t think he was a “lock” I think he’s a deserving member.
Corey is funny to me. I don’t think we need to judge players in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s and 20s all different from each other based on what was happening in the landscape at the time. To start the further back you go the less you see on Wikipedia. But also the level of international talent, which tours were active, what games were played, etc is all different. Can’t measure Corey by the same yardstick you measure Filler.

In favor of Corey is his influence on the game. Some might argue it’s borderline meritorious service. Because in my opinion he gets more credit than he deserves in the break. Pool has went through many 9-ball break formats.

With the Sardo Rack era, he definitely found the exploit for B1.1. But he’s not exactly the mad scientist that also solved B1.2, B1.3, or B2.1. So much has happened in the industry over the last 20 years on this front and he was more the godfather of this evolution than the perpetual disruptive that caused them to keep changing the rules every step of the way.

But I don’t entirely mind considering him just for who he was to the game in the early 2000s. It was game changing.

I think SVB’s achievements always had a small asterisk that he failed to translate US dominance into overseas success. His two world championships got that monkey off his back. I think he would have gotten in because 5x US Open Championships were significant and offsetting enough. Some would argue those might as well have been world championships given those eras. Some might be able to cite specific years where the field wasn’t as international as it could be. But the public mind was already made up on that one. 5x US Open was order of magnitude bigger than 9x Turning Stone Champion in a lot of minds.

It’s funny how we perceive “overseas success” when it’s Shane. He was runner up in two World 9b Championships back to back in that period. His loss to Big Ko was one where Ko just got more rolls - that’s not to dismiss Ko’s win, but it’s not like Shane played bad in the finals.

Anyone that thinks getting Joe Rogan to comment on and bring visibility to pool is a bad thing is off their rocker.

"nnoooo we don't want thaaat gigantic massive celebrity with one of the the largest and most successful online platforms in history! we want a different ooooone"

I don't care if he starts touting cutting his Ivermectin/DMT microdose with a bit of Taom chalk raised his game 2 balls. The more Joe is involved with pool, the better.

Is there any remote evidence that it's working or do you all just love Rogan? If a celebrity is needed to help pool, cant they aim higher?

manila WC 2006-2007.. cardiff is borderline. but this was magnificent. way better than atlantic city (from a stream viewers perspective).
Nice, I'll have to check that out. I only started watching around 2011 but I have gone back and watched some classic matches from my favorite players. The crowd definitely popped during the Peach/Gomez final in 07.

Sorry I should've clarified I meant in the modern era of pool.

You'd need both someone that actually has a big name, and who gives a crap about pool. So as far as "aiming higher", i can realistically name no one. Besides Manny Pacquiao, which doesn't really help us here. You're not just gonna get Morgan Freeman to organically develop a love for one pocket and start hanging out with Incardona.
Regardless of if you like or dislike Joe, that he is absolutely massive is not up for debate. His Spotify contract alone was 1/4 of a billion dollars.
As far as proof, read into it how you want but Fedor's first appearance on Joe had 72k views. His one last year had 426k. And that's only on YouTube. Who knows how many more on Spotify and other platforms.

Nothing wrong with PR except the gripe (I believe) was the commentary. Big personality has to be subordinate to the 2 guys playing pool - one. Two, has to provide insightful narrative to the two guys playing the pool. Three and beyond, still has to be interesting.

Sometimes it’s good to have a guy you love to hate. Respect the game, but rubs you the wrong way. Capito fills that role.

Something about when he gets down on the shot.

I remember when the Bears D was lining up presnap. The camera would always zoom in on Mike Singletary’s eyes. A picture of extra intense focus.

Linebacker Mike Singletary “Samurai Mike”

You can tell this dude has bad intentions.
