You've stretched too far on your side rails.
When you stretch too far on the sides it reduces and limits your end to end stretch.
Can you unstaple the side stretch and back off.
Also your vice grips are in the pocket that won't get most of them out at first, you need to move your vice grips to the end of the slate right beside the pocket opening.
If that won't do it you'll have to back off the side stretch.

Spot on, thanks for confirming that. I was led astray from a YouTube video that said there should be a stretch side and an anchor side. Perhaps that works for some types of cloth but for the CPBA Competition cloth that method stretched it very unevenly. Had to pretty much start over because I had already stapled and marked the cloth. I could only get it mostly even. It was a brutal learning experience and I now appreciate table mechanics on a whole new level. So yeah it ain’t perfect but it plays a lot better than the napped cloth that was on there previously. FWIW Speed is about the same as Simonis 860HR. Hopefully it holds up well so I don’t have to go through this process any time soon!
An interweb video suggested to stretch the cloth side to side on both long sides of the table?? AFAIK the anchor side stays anchored (hence the name) and you do all of the side to side stretch opposite the anchor side and then on each end.
There is nothing wrong with the process shown in that video, but you need to know the exact stretch index for the cloth being used. CPBA has a much lower stretch index than Simonis 860HR. If I had to guess, that may have been some of your problem. In addition, the amount of slack that you pull into the side pockets is different for every table. What you had shown wasn't all that bad. Being that it was CPBA cloth, I think that you could have pulled that slack out of it, by finishing off the side pockets, then pulling the cloth into the corner pockets. You'd be surprised how much of that slack will pull right out, when you do your end to end stretching. And that does include into the pockets... In fact, I do the corner pockets before pulling the remainder of the ends. Opposite of what you did.
My stretch index works for CPBA cloth as well,but you have to use the correct slack in the side pockets when installing the cloth.
