UK open qualifiers

Thinking to attend the Pattaya based qualifier as I will be on holiday from work 30/3 - 7/4. The qualifier is listed as being 5/4 - These are usually one day, or whole weekend in length?

Anyone else this side of the world and fancy a beer or three?

I looked on the Matchroom website and the UK Open page and saw nothing about qualifiers. Do you have a link?

Here you go Bob :)

I was considering going back to UK, but for 10days, and to only go to London... would be a waste of my life...

Pattaya is closer, and undoubtedly much more fun

And one of the most important items in the announcement:

There will be no paid open spots at any of the Matchroom Major Open events.
So that means cannot pay for direct entry into the open, must qualify via. these satellite tournaments right? Guess that answers some questions from a few threads a while ago. I guess all open events will have qualification in this way for those outside their invited top128?

I wonder if more than one player will qualify at each venue. There are only 12 qualifier venues listed now for the UK Open, which starts May 7th which is in about nine weeks. If the players have to arrange travel, there is a problem.

One of the qualifiers will take place April 28th.

Like most things, it leans toward those with deep pockets and a handful of privilege. Maybe there is some assistance awarded for successful qualifiers? 🤣 I imagine they will take more than one from each event, given it's a 256 player field.

Sounds like you've been to London in the past mate 😆
Too many times 🤣 Honestly, If I had more time to spare I would consider the London venues, but I only have 10days off... Don't wanna spend equivalent of 3 days (give or take some hours and some jet lag) in an airplane, and the rest traipsing around a city I don't really like. If I had more time off I could at least go and visit my family or something.

I'll probably go to London for a couple of days on my summer travels (on the way back home... as my uncle lives there and I'd like to check out the couple of spots to play there - lining up Amsterdam, Tallinn and Helsinki for some fun too)

There goes my dream of playing in the US Open. There's just no way I'd fly 6+ hours to a different country just for a qualifier..

I assume they would have some qualifiers held outside of the states also?
I personally think satellite qualifiers are a good thing with regard to raising standards, but I understand it irks people with bigger dreams and deep wallets.

No idea, but you can see in the case of the UK open there's only one qualifier in Asia.. and that's the pattaya one.

I am wondering what the criteria for selection is with regard to qualifier locations?
I'd love to get across to Japan to play sometime.
I am woefully bad at paying attention to the dates of various events.

are you sure there won't be qualifiers in japan? it's a fairly strong pool country and has a very big population. keep your dream alive.
Japan is pretty pathetic when it comes to pool, so I don't have much hope, but maybe I'll be surprised who knows.

Mini-rant incoming:

Japan is the only country in the world that requires players to have a license to call themselves "professional". You have to pass a test and pay $100 or so a month. If you don't do this then you don't get any prize money at tournaments like the "Japan Open", you just get a coupon that you can redeem at NewArt (Japan's biggest pool store), and this coupon is only half of the prize money. There are hardly any big tournaments in Japan, and if there are, the prize money is very small (Japan Open = $9000 for the winner).

What does the Japanese pool federation do for the players for their $100 per month? (plus $1000 initiation fee)

Do rooms run independent events?
