Hmmmmm, what's the deal with Efren losing three matches in a row.... ?
Doug
( strange that he melted right in the big money round )

Yes, I found that very strange too. He usually seems to thrive on the big stage.

Not so strange

It is called, "getting older". I speak from experience. Believe me.

By my reckoning, it is impossible for two players (not inc Manalo) to finish on 4 wins. It is possible that 4 players could finish on 3 wins, Marlon, Dennis, Hohman, and Ralf. Either way given Marlons HUGE % I am 99% sure we have our first finalist, congrats to Marlon!

I'm sure you're right. I was wondering just how big a part that would play - you're sure to be both mentally and physically exhausted at this point after playing 6 days for hours on end against the very best players around.

I think the intense format has taken a few guys by surprise this week and you might see a few pool players beginning a more careful fitness/diet regime in future.

Poetic justice for the last IPT he coulda won and didn't because Reyes put the breaks on 'em. Now Reyes is the one who lost steam when it mattered most! Vecchia età è bruta.

So, with three matches down and two to go, here's the way I see it.

Manalo is in the driver's seat. If he wins either of his last two matches, it looks like he's guaranteed to make it through to the final. He also leads in win %, so even if he loses his last two matches he might very well make it through on the tiebreak.

Orcollo and Hohmann are fighting it out for second with two wins each. They play at 5:30, so that match is obviously huge, with the winner in the driver's seat for the finals. Orcollo leads Hohmann in win %, so if Orcollo wins Hohmann is probably out. If Hohmann wins then if he beats Manalo in his final match of the day he is in. That's a big if though, but he could still make it in with three wins if he beats Orcollo and his win % holds up. That'll be tough if either Orcollo or Souquet end up with three wins though, because he's behind Orcollo by a little and Souquet by a lot in win %.

Souquet and Stalev have one win each. They both would need to win their last two matches to have any chance. Souquet leads both Orcollo and Hohmann in win % pretty comfortably, so if he wins his last two and neither of those guys get to four wins, Souquet is probably in. He's gotta beat Manalo and Reyes though, and then hope neither Hohmann nor Orcollo win their last two.

Stalev has to beat Reyes and Orcollo, hope that Souquet doesn't win his last two, and probably have Hohmann lose his final two matches. Stalev is last in win %, so if he gets to three wins and either Hohmann or Orcollo also have three wins, he has to make up the win % difference.

Finally, there's Reyes. Unfortunately it looks like the grueling tournament schedule may have finally caught up with him. In any case, he's out now because the best he can do is end up with two wins by winning his last two matches, but Manalo already has three wins, and the winner of the Orcollo-Hohmann match will also then have three wins.

What happened to the Americans?

The Americans have a much tougher road to the finals at this point. Matlock and Nevel probably have the best chance, but to make it they would have to either (1) kidnap KT and hold him for ransom, which would be a trip to the finals, or (2) blow up the Venetian while the next round of matches is going on, then get in as replacements for the player's whose misfortune it was to be inside playing at the time of the explosion.

Pretty long odds.

Matlock, Nevel and Gabe put on a great performance. Specially "The Gunslinger", but it's pretty obvious this country does not produce enough talent to hang with the Asians and Europeans on the IPT in the long run.

Ameri-what-now? :D

Geez, I take a couple hours away from the computer to have fun with the family, and I come back to find out Efren is totally out of it. That's what I get for putting family over pool. I think I failed Efren for not updating the computer and rooting for Efren every 15 seconds.

Anywho, Efren had his fun last tournament. It looks to be the official changing of the Filipino guard is finally happening with Efren stepping aside and Orcullo and Manalo taking over.

I'm rooting for the ex-fisherman.

With almost 60% of the entrants and several great players on the field, it's odd that no Americans made it to the final 6.

Manalo won enough back to back matches at the KOTH to win two or three normal tourneys, so im hoping he takes this one. With all these unbelievable mathups I think I'm going to have to be there live for the next one though.

LOL passing of the guard. Thats been rumored for the past 5-10 years now, at the end of the year Efren will lead the money list.

Manalo is seemingly unbeatable. He is the clear favorite at this point.

But who knows...pressure busts pipes!

Gee I Wonder Why...

Yeah, no kidding. Could it be because we don't even let our kids in the pool hall until they are 19 - 21 years of age? I have tried to start a junior program here in my state several times, but nobody wants kids in their establishment. They are scared they will get busted for having juveniles in close proximity to alcohol. I know a junior here that is a world beater, but he can barely find a tournament that will even let him in the front door. We are lucky that we have the number of great players that we do.
