M masonh AzB Silver Member Silver Member Jul 19, 2008 #2 capped ferrules have a solid top.for example the tenon off the shaft is say 3/4" and the ferrule is 1" so that there is 1/4" of soid ferrule material on top. the capped ferrules are stronger,but i like the feel of the non-capped ferrules better.
