Uniloc question

The Uni-Loc company makes four different joints. Three of them are quick-release types, with the pin going into a metal insert in the shaft. The fourth type is the Uni-Loc Radial, for which the pin screws directly into the shaft with no insert.
You say you are considering "going Uniloc" and are wondering whether the cue would hit differently after the switch. That probably depends upon what the joint configuration is currently and which Uni-Loc joint you are considering. If the current joint is flat-faced wood-to-wood, and you switch to the Uni-Loc Radial pin, I doubt that the hit would change much.

Ryan, please explain. fastford hasn't said which Uni-Loc joint he is talking about. If it's the well respected radial pin, why would he be giving up playability for convenience?
I assume he means the Uniloc quick release as opposed to a Radial pin. I'll go on this assumption to answer.
Going from a wood/wood connect to a piloted/insert changes two main factors.
First, the connection of the metal pin into wood goes to a metal pin into a brass insert. That means less contact between the butt and the shaft. The face also changes because the brass insert has a pilot. The overall contact of the face diminishes.
Second, you are adding mass to shaft due to the insert. I will say the difference in weight between the two pins is negligible.
Now, do I believe that, say, a 3/8-10 is better than a Uniloc connection? Not necessarily. Do I believe a wood/wood joint is better than pilot/insert? Not necessarily. To each his own. The OP's question is "would the hit change?" The simple answer is yes.
I usually ask why he wants it changed. If it is convenience, I say do not do it. If it is he prefers the hit compared to the original configuration, I say go for it.

Going from, say again, a 3/8-10 to a Radial, would increase contact with the wood but add mass to the joint. Both have to be considered.
