Anyone use the Universal Nova shaft... how does it play... you like, or no..pros & cons... do you feel you should have gone with something else.. thanks in advance
I just got one (12.4mm) two weeks ago with a Universal cue. I received the standard version (there is a version with a longer ferrule).
I had one short session with it the day I got it and last week I had a long session with it.
I bought the cue to match a Predator Centro shaft, the Nova just came with the cue (in case I wanted to sell it, which I don't)
It's not enough time to form a solid opinion, but for now I can say that, it feels quite nice, the taper, tip diameter and weight are identical to the Predator Centro so I can switch between the two with no issues.
The Centro feels a bit stiffer but it might be a difference in the tip.
In terms of low deflection, it perform a bit under the Centro and a bit over a 314-2 shaft. So pretty good.
I played on a 9ft table with 4.25 inch pockets, I found that on most shots I really don't need to compensate for deflection. On shot that I do, I find that FHE (Front Hand English) works best.
I'm focusing now more on the Centro shaft, so I don't know when or if I'll have a more solid opinion and a review for it.
I can say that after a 2.5 hours of playing with it a 9ball session with a friend and after that another half an hour by myself of testing certain elements, I feel comfortable enough with it to use it in a serious match, so the learning curve for me was fast.
If you want to know something specific, just ask.
