Unknowns/locals winning vs top pros

I see the Joss tour has a 140/70 dollar tiered entry. Has any one come out of no-where to beat top players and cash high in a big tournament?

I don't mean already known shortstops, but someone not in the gambling circle or regional tour winners. Like a guy comes out of his basement practice room, beats everyone, and slides back out of the scene.

With professional pool in such a poor state, it's not unusual for talented players to give up competing only to poke their heads out when it's convenient. I can say with absolute certainty that the NYC area has plenty of people that are quite capable of doing well in a Joss event who haven't played in anything in years. I'm sure that to many observers, such occurances would appear as a surprise.

I think there's a period in one's life when regional tour hopping can be fun and lucrative however, I think for some, they outgrow it (sometimes before they even get started).
