Dont be afraid to loose!
The biggest thing that helped me was realizing that the absolute worst thing that can happen is I loose my $20 or what ever we were playing for...thats it! You're not going to die, no one is going to be maimed or hurt theres really nothing to be scared of...Plus on a positive note you may pick up a thing or two that said better player does that could improve your game. In my experience most of the better players in the pool halls that I have donated my money to are willing to give you valuable tidbits of info back in return, all you have to do is ask....
