UPA Sactioned Events Question

Here's an e-mail response I got from Dennis Wilson, promoter for the Capitol City Classic...

"No fees have to be paid to the UPA, in our Tournament. In some events the UPA gets away with a $25 fee that goes to the UPA.

Your second Q / any player that is in our event or has been eliminated from the event has access to the tournament through the finales. All players are entitled to a pass for a spouse or significant other and the same rule is in effect. If you wanted to upgrade the spouse pass to VIP a fee of $40 will be charged".

Bravo? For what? Is it right for some tournaments to require UPA membership and some not to? The contract at the UPA site says you have to be a member to play in the Capital City. Can we believe anything at the web site? Do they have any idea what they are doing?

They list the L.A. Open as a sanctioned tournament at their web site but on their latest flyer they list that tournament as "Tentative". Well, which is it?? Is Jay Helfert going to accept their demands or is he having second thoughts? Will there even be an L.A. Open? Stay tuned for more wacko doings of the UPA.
