Hi all

 After almost a year of being in UPA finally I have recived something from them. It is contract renewal form.
I'm not sure whether I should sign up again just to give them another $100 bucks and never heard from them again?

well, one things for sure. I you continue to be a member you can't complain much. perhaps you should call them up and voice your issues as opposed to just post a moan. I'm going to sign on as a standard member. I called them up and asked them to send me a packet and they did. they do have a lot going on.

Hi, Bazarus. Isn't it amazing that we all received communication from the UPA after a thread runs on this forum about the lack thereof. We should have started a thread about the UPA's lack of communication a long time ago, I guess. This forum is one way to communicate with the UPA as it is obvious they read and, of course, as Cuetone suggests, you should have known that you could call the UPA since they didn't bother to keep you informed throughout the duration of your membership.

On the six-tournament UPA Tour, if you were not "invited" or "selected" by the UPA player representatives or World Class Management to compete in the BCA Open in Vegas, the UPA ranking points won't do you much good, Bazarus, this UPA season.

Those who did attend the BCA Open received UPA ranking points and will continue to stay on the top of the UPA ranking list, enabling them to compete in high-profile tournaments next year.

Those who did not attend the invitational BCA Open will not be able to qualify for BCA Open in Vegas or WPC next year since the UPA ranking points are currently used as the qualification vehicle.

Hopefully, Matchroom Sport will take notice of the extreme injustice that has presented itself to all the UPA members, with the exception of the UPA player representatives and their friends who are in the loop and kept abreast of the latest happenings in the UPA.

As you know, Bazarus, many other UPA members, just like you, have not had one piece of communication since they donated their $100 to the UPA and signed a legally binding contract for membership to a men's organization to promote pool. The tour is a joke.

Other than receiving this communication in one year's time of duration, what else have you benefitted from pertaining to your UPA membership?

I think you can answer your own question about whether to send the UPA another $100. It does help keep the organization afloat, which I hear is broke at this time, and it does help to offset costs that the player representatives incur traveling to various UPA-sanctioned events.

If you would like to support the men's organization, you should donate your $100. If you want to play pool in a real tour, other than the 6 events, 4 of which are promoted by Dragon Productions which is owned by a UPA player representative, I'd suggest you save your cash. :)

See you at the Open, Bazarus!

Maybe, Cuetone, the UPA should have thought it prudent to use the telephone as a way to communicate with its membership as opposed to its membership using the telephone to find out what is happening in the UPA. Most organizations that collect monies do communicate with its membership throughout the year and do not require its membership to call them up to find out what is going on.

You claim that "they do have a lot going on." What is that? What is going on is the UPA has been granted the privilege of being a ranking vehicle for future high-profile tournaments, and the only ones who benefit are the UPA player representatives and their friends.

Folks like Bazarus and others are not in the loop and were not kept abreast of the UPA and its happenings. The suggestion that they should have chased down the UPA and called them up to find out what is going on is not the way a men's pool organization to promote pool should be run.

I'm sure the UPA will greatly appreciate your donation to become a standard member as a girl. :D Hope you get to meet Frank Alvarez some day, Cuetone. He really is a nice guy and is single. If you are at the Open, you may have a chance to meet him in person; that is, if the UPA allows him to participate. The U.S. Open is open to all men and the UPA can't stop its success, thank God. The suggestion by the UPA of any boycott to the U.S. Open is a travesty.

Looks to me like Earl Strickland is the smart one here. He must have seen something he didn't like about the UPA and the way it is run right from the beginning.

Fortunately for Earl, the UPA has not been able to prevent him from attending high-profile tournaments, but for the rest of the UPA membership, those who joined this men's organization to promote pool with the aspiration to compete in a men's tour, they are left in the dark.

Until something is done about the UPA's ranking system being used as a qualification vehicle for WPC and other tournaments of this caliber, the injustice to male pool players in the United States will continue. The UPA player representatives and their friends will be the UPA Tour eventually because most neglected UPA members will not be renewing their UPA membership by the end of this month of July.

Earl Strickland, I know you read this forum. Those who laugh last do laugh the best. See you at the Open, Earl!

Hi ManlyShot

I have to say, that we(the players) are the only reason that UPA exists. Without us this organization doesn't have a future and neither do we. We need to trust and depand on each other, but so far it looks more like a war.
I am not sure how many people signed contract last year, but I know that this year will be a lot less. We should be threated kinda like customers(they pay and they expect). As soon as UPA change the way they treat us, better for all of us.
Us Open is a great tournament. I've played first time last year and I'm going to play every year from now on. Brady & Barry does amazing job and whats more important they treat everybody with respect.
I don't know why Earl didn't signed for UPA, but he is a champion and he don't need to stand up to anyone.

see ya at the open
