uploading pool video to youtube

I'm thinking about taking some home video of me playing / practicing pool to get people's ideas / thoughts on what I'm doing.

Do I need a certain kind of movie camera ?

Can somebody tell me how to do it ?

pretty much any video camera will do, just output the video as an AVI or a MPEG and then upload.

be careful not to have music playing in the background, YouTube has been known to remove video that may be breaking copyrights of the recording artists. it's pretty much automatic when it happens. they must have a bot running that detects the audio.

good luck

Any camera will do, even a phone recording. To upload to YouTube, create an account and you'll have a simple button to click to start the upload, you can set what quality you want (so people with slower connections can watch), and done. If you want to avoid blooming and focus issues, you may need to do some playing around with the white balance, brightness and manual focus.

I keep trying to have a sticky with a FAQ setup in the streaming section for these types of questions but nothing so far.

My advice would be to use what you already have. You probably have a video camera, digital camera, or cell phone that will already record to a format that you can upload to YouTube. If you plan on talking on your video, be aware of the background noise as stevekur1 pointed out. I recorded a video that had the television playing in the background and it got flagged for copyrighted material. Also try to make sure that you have sufficient lighting.

I haven't recorded any videos in a while, but here is a link to some of the pool videos that I've recorded in the past.

Solomon, that was a beautiful between-the-goalposts move getting perfectly on the 8 in your #30 video! .Nice home table. What brand is it?

Arnaldo

Thanks for the quick responses.
I know sometimes when I'll watch one, that is says something like private or public.
Is that something that I would have to set ?
Is there a set amount of time I can upload when I'm just starting ?
What is the best settings so that people can see it ?
Can I edit what I put on there ?

It was said to create an account, would that be the same one I use for watching and saving favorites and subscribed ? Or do I have to start a different account ?

Does anyone use a go pro for the recording or is the light typically too low for a go pro, which is oriented towards outdoor action shots?

Thank you for watching. It's a Legacy Billiards table. I've had it for about 5 years now. I'm pretty happy with it.

You can set the public option in your account video listing for others to view it.

There used to be a 15 minute limit but not sure what that is now. I can post longer stuff myself.

As long as you have good light around the table (more than usual for playing), the video will be OK.

You can edit it a bit in YouTube but not too much, you need another program like Microsoft Movie Maker to edit the video.

You can use the same account you already have if you have one.

If you do it off your phone/tablet, the YouTube app has a upload option so you can video and upload right from the device. I recorded and uploaded a video of my son playing at a tournament in New Jersey right from my chair in the pool hall using my phone.

If you have subscriptions and can mark videos to watch later, you already have the account that you need. You don't need another account.

You set privacy settings upon uploading a video and you can change the privacy settings whenever. Public means that anyone can view/search for the video. I think there are 2 private settings. One where people can't search for the video, but can view it if you send them the direct link. Another private setting is so that only you can view the video when you are logged into your account (you may be able to specify other accounts that are able to view the video as well).

You can edit videos. Editing start/stop times are pretty easy. However, it seems to take a while for most edits to process. It may be easier to edit the videos locally on a computer and then uploading the final product to YouTube.

New accounts have restricted length of videos. After you post some videos and have good reputation (no complaints of copyright) one can put longer vids.
That's why I got old Mika Immonen match done rack by rack.

Maybe I could help with that sticky. I'll try to write something up over the next week.

To the OP, if you need any help, I'm just a PM away.

Tried my best to answer.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Public means anybody can see it on Youtube. If you set keywords, and someone does a search, then it may show up as a hit result.

Private means you can only see it if you have the link.

Is that something that I would have to set ?

You can change this at anytime

Is there a set amount of time I can upload when I'm just starting ?

It used to be 10 minutes, then you get validated and the time limit removed.

What is the best settings so that people can see it ?

That depends on the recording rate of your camera. Youtube accepts 480, 720, and 1080p. Not sure about 2k and 4K videos.

Can I edit what I put on there ?
You have to delete it, and upload again.

It was said to create an account, would that be the same one I use for watching and saving favorites and subscribed ? Or do I have to start a different account ?

Its entirely up to you. If you don't mind other people readily stumbling across the video of your kid's birthday party at Chucky Cheeses, after watching a heated pit match in Super Billiards Expo between upcoming reality show personas.

On my youtube channel, everyone can see that I subscribe John Barton on CTE aiming, mainland chinese commercials centered around time travel, and cheesy KPOP rap videos with too much autotune; a guilty pleasure not unlike league pool.
