Urethane belt needed

I need a belt for my belt-driven spindle. It is clear round urethane. It's like a clear O ring 2.25" across, 3/16" in thickness.

The spindle came on my Align Rite CNC router, which is the same as the one Joe B. has for sale right now.

I have other spindles I could install but this is a good one and I'd like to keep using it. The belt is still working but it's really beat and needs to be changed before it breaks mid-cut.

Does any one know where I can buy one or have one made? I tried welding a cut down longer one but I couldn't get a good bond.

I've called and emailed Matt at Align Rite for weeks but I have not heard back so I guess I'm on my own.

Does anyone know about these?

Good idea. That was the first place I tried since it is the same material as a Unique Products Quiet router.

I have one of those, and that was the belt I tried unsuccessfully to weld as per various internet sites. It's probably a piece of cake with the right tool set. I tried to improvise several ways but my bond was not good enough and failed immediately.

I was hoping that one of the local belt/seal/bearing dealers would just stock the material and make them to order since there are so many sizes in use but I came up empty.

That's a great tip. I checked their website but they did not list my size (very small loop). I didn't know they would make them to order.

edit: So they did indeed have a pre-made urethane o ring in stock and, in fact, 2 different durometers: 70 and 90. I ordered a couple of the softer ones. We'll see. I previously only looked for "belts". Good call. Thanks again.

Also, I noticed that they sell kits to glue up custom O rings rather than welding them. I'm not sure if they would hold up in this application. This is a belt, not an o ring. Anyway, I'll have the pre-made ones Monday.

I got tired of o-rings breaking and dry rotting. Royce suggested this stuff and it works great. I heated up a raiser blade and stuck both ends on the blade to melt and then pushed the ends together. What ever the price it is not worth loosing endmills when they break.

Great tip! I ordered 2 sizes (4 and 5 mm) of this stuff too. That is excellent information on how to join them. The technique you described is basically what I tried but I didn't have enough material to get a 2nd shot at it.

This order will no doubt take longer than the one from McMaster-Carr so I'll get to try those o rings first.

The o rings from McMaster-Carr cost as much each as the whole 12' length (lifetime supply?) of the stuff from China.
