I was rummaging through some old boxes and I found a couple of programs from the US Army 14.1 Championships in Europe. There are lists of players, and I am certain some of our AZ'ers may recognize some of them. I decided to post it in the 14.1 section first, and maybe link to the main forum later.

1986 Men's List of Participants:
Chris "Lucky" Lorenz, Bruce Patton, Tudor Necula,Mark Kanik,Randy Davis, Tim Perkins, Gary Urinoski, Chance Chin, Jerald "Jerry" Reinwand, Jack Rippel, Frank Kirschbaum, Steven Murrill, Johnny Holt, Michael Mendyk, Wilbert Hines, Terry Marigny, Stephan Armijo.

1986 Women's List of Participants:
Kimberly Alford, Roseann Brown, Heidi Carpenter, Linda Carpenter, Rose Cooper, Ellen Cyree, Sherrie Dunlap, Donna Griffin, Robin Groseclose, Susan Herzberger, Linda McKnight, Donna Mulloy, Kyong Son Park, Susan Shorr, Angela Treece, Mary Trost, Janie Vanhoozer.

Perhaps some of these names will jog someones memory, or recall they may have played them in pool league.

1987 Men's Participants:
Joseph Brown, David Seils, Bruce Patton, Mark Kanik, Chris Lorenz, Roger Glenn, Tim Perkins, Jeffrey Smith, Jerald Reinwand, Jack Rippel, Clark Merrit, Randall Newsome, Louis Cooper, Robert Hunt, Johnny Holt, John Marshall.

1987 Women's Participants:
Denise Lee, Patricia Chewning, Coweta Neel, Brenda Kidd, Jeanne Soos, Margaret Wagaman, Edwina Reuther, Jeannette Lee, Alicia Tator, Rita Osborne, Carolyn Reinwand, Veronica Key, Rose Cooper, Janie Vanhoozer, Laurie Kellog, Deanna Greenwood.

I hope that these players are remembered for not only their service to the country, but their contributions to pool and billiards being a respected part of Army Recreation.

If I can find the 1987 Air Force Tournament Results, I'll post them also.

Moderators: If this applies better in the main forum, please move it there.

Thanks, cajunfats.

I would die if you could find the 1984 copy. ;)

I do not have that year, as I arrived in Germany after the tournament had taken place. If I recall, that was an 8 Ball Tournament. It is likely that a copy exists in the files at Army MWR in Europe, but since the realignment, that stuff is in mothballs forever.

Perhaps, by my posting this, a participant, like yourself(I am guessing), may have a copy. The military pool playing community is a presence here at AZ, let's hope that someone sees your post and helps track one down.

Thanks for Looking.

US Army 14.1 Tim Perkins

I was in the Air Force and won this tournament in 88 or 89, and would be interested in any information that can be provided. I was able to play because it was no longer the US Army sponsored.

I also spent a lot of time playing 9 ball with Tim Perkins and it would be great to hear from.

Please provide any info.

Edmero, I do not know where Tim is now. I play in a Tournament on Fridays, and an old friend of his, Bob Brown comes down from the Ft. Polk area sometimes. I'll ask him the next time I see him.

I found my Certificate from the Air Force when I directed the tournament at Vogelweh back in 1987. I left Germany shortly thereafter, so I am not sure about the following years tournaments.

I am hopeful this will spark more interests as people recognize names. I am also going to post this up in Facebook soon.

Thanks for looking.

What a neat thread. Thanks for posting. I was in the Army in the early 70's and I never heard of a 14.1 tournament. I wonder how far back those tournaments go and if it was only in Europe.

The 14.1 Tournaments took place starting in the mid 80's. Previously it was 8 Ball. The interesting part was that the 8 Ball Tournaments were played on 9 Ft. Tables in the Recreation Centers.

I played in a couple of the qualifiers back in 1981/82, and they were 8 Ball.

I'll see if there is somebody at Army MWR that has access to the old files from the early 70's. Although, I believe the tournaments didn't start until after 1975, mostly in Korea and Europe.

Thanks for getting back to me. I wish that I would of been more aware of any type of military tournaments back in the time that I was servicing. I did not play pool steady for 10 yrs back then. I never would go to the rec center on base but I heard that they were having weekly 8 ball tournaments. I never played in one but a few guys set up a match (8-ball) between me & the so-called best player on the base one night. I took care of him pretty easy. I was the talk of the base....LOL. I would of love to had played in a 14.1 tournament b/c of the pride that goes along with it.

Been lurking this forum for years - but this thread woke me up! I remember the 87 tournament well. In fact I have this article from the may 87 issue of Pool & Billiard Magazine (attached) framed on my pool room wall as a memento:

I talked to Bob Brown, who used to run with Tim when they were stationed in Nuremburg together. He said Tim comes from around the Paducah, Kentucky area. Although he isn't sure Tim is still there, I think it's a good stating point. Maybe some of our Kentucky and Southern Illinois friends might know something.

Tony Softa and Roger Glenn

I remember Tony was up in Alaska and Roger was in El Paso some years ago. Both were involved with the BCA Leagues and referee Program if I recall. One other player, Chance Chin I think was living up on the East Coast, maybe the New York area.

I used to watch Chance play Ortmann for Thousand Deutschemark Sets in 14.1 and 9 Ball.

Bruce Patton was part owner in a hall in Pontoon Beach ,Illinois, back in the 80's- 90's. Don't know but think he's from Granite City,Ill originally.

Good to know info, didnt know US army used to sponsor pool that big specially 14.1. Now it seemed like only for 9ball/8ball when I was in korea back in 09-11. MWR (korea) had an 8ball tourny for the 8th Army back then not so sure if it's still played.

Carl, did you ever see the promo shot they did of Tim back in either the late 70's or early 80's of him changing clothes in a telephone booth and coming out wearing a superman shirt? It took place at the Recreation Center in Nurnberg. It really was something to see.

Bob, was that photo in the Stars and Stripes Newspaper? It sure sounds familiar! Hahahaha, Superman Tim Perkins!

I'll say this, and you have also told me, he was a ferocious money player. I sure wish we could round up some of the guys for a reunion tournament!! That would be fun.
