US Bar Table Brackets Unfair?
I want to thank CSI for producing this great event.
I was a little dissappointed though in what I thought would be a bigger turnout and I do realize that most of the "names" were out of the country. I thought more players would enter because of that, especially in the rotation events.
I'm also dissappointed in the lack of the upper echelon of women. What was it that made them decide not to play in this event? Was it the prize money? The WPBA? The expense? Short races? Just curious.
Anyway...this thread is about the brackets. Why weren't brackets used to reflect the amount of players? For example, why wasn't a 128 player bracket used for the 128 player field entered in the Mens 9-ball? Why wasn't a 256 bracket used for the 157 player 8-ball field?
It seems to me that by using the preliminary brackets and by taking just 2 players from each that it might be somewhat unfair. That is to say, a players chances of being eliminated by the same opponent is increased. I know I wouldn't feel good if I only lost to the same opponent and that opponent only took 9-12th. I realize that in a full bracket that, that scenario can happen, but...the chances are greatly reduced AND it depends on when you win or lose.
If the prelim brackets are necessary, for whatever reason, wouldn't it be better to move players ASAP to one bracket so the chances of that situation is lessened? To me, that would be the ideal. Moving 4 players from prelims to a 16 bracket would be better. Moving 8 players from the prelims to a 32 bracket would be better yet.
Am I off on a tangent?
PS. I think the 8-ball race should be at least to 6, 5 is too short and 7 may be too long with the time constraints.
