I think you are not understanding my post. You can view 64th place as being 1500 payout in a 1000 entry tournament
Or, if you assume the world-class half are almost guaranteed to finish in the top half of the field, you can view them as having no entry fee and getting paid just 500 for 64th.
We tend to look at paying deep as throwing a bone to the dead $$ crowd. But I think that’s the wrong way to look at it. I think it is better viewed as insuring the top-half crowd are not stuck entry fee with a tough draw. That is the point I was trying to make.
