US Open rule change?

A player who played in the US Open said they changed a rule.

Everyone had to break from the box.

First I heard of this. Any reason why Barry did this? Was he trying to be like the IPT?

I don't remember if they had to break from the box this yr or not but if they did, it wasn't a new rule... I know they had to break from the box last yr too.

Hasn't the Pearl strongly pushed for the break box to happen for years?.
Yes. Last yr at the US Open warm up in Cambridge he was bragging that they were using the breakbox at the Open because of him. Last yr the guy I was dating played in the Open which is why I remember they were breaking from the box. This yr I went alone and didn't pay any attention to it. I do know that at one point during the tournament Earl complained about something to do with the break... If they were breaking from the box, I'm not sure what he would've been complaining about. Unfortunately I cannot remember for sure but I want to say that he was complaining that they weren't breaking from the box. Can anyone else on here confirm if they did or didn't have to break from the box this yr?

Yep, there is an interview on AZ where he goes into the details of all the changes that should be implemented. A few of them are very good ideas, if I remember correctly.

Hi all,

Early in this years U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships week, I remember Scott Smith (overall tournament referee) saying (during the player introductions) that there was no break box and that players could break from anywhere behind the headstring.

I hope this helps.

IIRC, last year they were using the Sardo rack, racking the 9-ball on the spot and breaking from the box.
This year, they were using a normal type wooden rack, racking the 1-ball on the spot and breaking from anywhere behind the line. They were also racking their own this year.
