US Open rule change?

I don't remember if they had to break from the box this yr or not but if they did, it wasn't a new rule... I know they had to break from the box last yr too.jjinfla said:

Yes. Last yr at the US Open warm up in Cambridge he was bragging that they were using the breakbox at the Open because of him. Last yr the guy I was dating played in the Open which is why I remember they were breaking from the box. This yr I went alone and didn't pay any attention to it. I do know that at one point during the tournament Earl complained about something to do with the break... If they were breaking from the box, I'm not sure what he would've been complaining about. Unfortunately I cannot remember for sure but I want to say that he was complaining that they weren't breaking from the box. Can anyone else on here confirm if they did or didn't have to break from the box this yr?Klopek said:

Early in this years U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships week, I remember Scott Smith (overall tournament referee) saying (during the player introductions) that there was no break box and that players could break from anywhere behind the headstring.

IIRC, last year they were using the Sardo rack, racking the 9-ball on the spot and breaking from the box.Timberly said:
