USA Mosconi Cup Team Qualification (Points) Announcement

I don't understand why tournaments on 7-foot tables should count at all. There are sixteen tournaments on 9-ffot tables that count for Mosconi Cup points, isn't that enough?

I could be wrong but I think they are trying to generate more entries into regional tournaments by offering Mosconi points for them. When you are talking about only taking top 3 point totals, its not likely the additional tournaments using 7' will come into play, but it can help increase entries if there is some close contention and ultimately that is good for US pool.

I agree with you, but based on what was said last year I think they would argue that the skills are the same and the same players who win on 9-footers win on 7-footers. I think that's probably true, and I wouldn't mind if a big national tournament or two, like the US Bar Table 9-ball Championship, counted for points. It's a legitimate game and has its place. But I wish the other 7-foot events were out. Like boyersj says, they're probably trying to help promote the major pool tournaments in the US, and you've got to hand it to them for that.
