Not sure if everyone knows this, but Jeff Black - the same guy behind the ABIA, INSTALL GURUS, AND IC BILLIARD CLOTH is the person that runs used-pooltable.com.

Jeff called me a couple of weeks ago because he got a call from someone in my area that needed to have a table moved from the basement to the garage in order to have the basement area mud-jacked. Turns out it was a one-piece slate, but the move was easy so we did it anyway. To make up for this oversight Jeff gave me two free months of listings on used-pooltable.com.

Well, the other day I checked the listing and it had my company name, etc, but had the wrong phone number. I thought it was just a mistake so I sent him an email. Then I find out, that it's a "Vumber" (a virtual phone number) that rings to my phone. He said they did that to "track productivity".

I use a "Vumber" for my business, so I'm familiar with how they work. This gives Mr. Black the ability to set any calls ringing through that number to go straight to voicemail that only he has access to.

To be perfectly clear, I'm not making any accusations, but I just wonder how many installers that list on this website know this information. I'm definitely not comfortable with anyone having access to my customers and their contact information. Buyer beware.

I have advertised with used pool table for 4 years. They generate over 80% of my business. I install 500 plus tables a year. This year I am far ahead of that. I purchased a second vehicle and I still turn work away. He may or may not make money above and beyond the advertising fee, I don't care. I am busy all summer sometime 6 days a week. Used pool tables is seperate from the ABIA. Are we going to attack them now? Many Mechanics on this forum advertise with used pool tables. If you unjustly go after this site you damage the credibility of a valuable advertising source. Jeff Black does an amazing job advertising.
I more than understand how many of you dislike the ABIA. I have had reservations about the organization as well. I disagree with the path the ABIA was on. Please keep them separate!

I would also like to continue my thoughts about the ABIA. We need to be organized. We need to be recognized. Is the ABIA the answer? Maybe maybe not. There is a list of mechanics from this forum on the board of the ABIA. I am on that list. Have I seen a change not yet. But I have an opportunity to have a say to possibly do something positive. I want to be part of the solution. I do not yet know if the ABIA is the answer. To be continued. I do know that JEFF BLACK is not responsible for everything that goes bump in the night. I hear a lot of talk and see a lot of effort put into dismantling the ABIA. Who on this forum has done anything of ACTUAL TANGIBLE value to help organize us? When you reply please provide the address where our organization is based, email would be nice to. This way I can send a letter, an Email and if you have a phone number I will call and complain, because I want to know what everyone at this place is doing. What is the hold up. Let me guess it's located in The lost city of ATLANTIS? NO NO The business license is buried with Hoffa. All I here is talk and empty promises. yap yap yap. That dog don't hunt.

I know one thing for sure. If anyone sticks their neck out on this forum it gets chopped off. I am not Jeff's friend or enemy. I own a business and I am in the trench everyday trying to improve at what I do as a mechanic, as a businessman. It is too bad the energy spent opposing the ABIA isn't focused on getting something done. Get off your arm chair quarterback! Get in and try your hand at organizing mechanics. I don't mean talk. Do it! set it up. Show us how it's done.
Has anyone here investigated all of the great Ideas on how we are going to be organized? I have, it starts with a bunch of words that really are really just NOISE!
Think before you respond to this. I have made no claim to have an answer or a way to organize mechanics. I have seen people on this forum who claim to have an answer and do nothing. If I have offended you than my message hit it's target.

Mr. Turk,

Forgive me if I have a problem with people who are deceptive. When someone goes to the extent that Jeff has to hide his identity and role in separate business entities in order to reap a profit, that bugs me. Did you read the email exchange between him and the person who merely wanted information?

You are right, there's a void in our industry when it comes to standards and organization. But that doesn't mean it needs to be filled with someone promising change that ends up just costing us money with no tangible improvements - we already have that in the White House.

I'm not the world's best table mechanic. I'm a little fish in a big pond. But I'm good at organization and communication. So I'll answer your challenge and make a good faith attempt to initiate some kind of an organization for table mechanics. One thing you can be sure of, there will be total transparency.

So, can I count on input from you?
